Hi,

I am trying to find out about the history of Strong's British Twist Drill.

From the little information I can find I think it was located on Johnson Street and possibly closed in the mid to late 1970s

My family played some part in running the company which I think was something to do with my Great Grandmother. Her married name was Cade but I think it is more likely that her father (Foulstone, possibly Charles Foulstone) was involved. My own father (Fletcher) had some limited involvement until the mid 70s and at one point was considering moving from Bristol to Sheffield to take a more active part in the company.

Sadly all of my relatives on my fathers side are long gone and I have drawn a blank on finding much information about this company. A Google search turns up a reference to a lady that worked there briefly during WW2. So I do know that the factory was in existence c1940

I would appreciate any memories of the factory and the people that worked there.

Thanks for your assistance

Stuart

I used to work at another twist drill manufacturer in Sheffield and I can remember hiring a clerk who had just been made redundant from Strongs - probably around mmmmm 1979!
