Has anyone ever stuck anything in one of the usb ports on a sky+ box. I have looked on loads of sites but there seems to be different opinions as to what their purpose is. Maybe its used to program firmware or something but I aint putting anything into it until I'm sure.

Its not for anything - it does nothing. Its there as there was talk of possible future box upgrades activating it to allow you to add external HDD etc - but as far as I know those plans have been all but scrapped.
