Midland Mainline have done a similar bargain rail trips to London before. We've travelled for a fifteen quid each, before Christmas. We were restricted to 4 tickets per purchase.

You can go to london for a quid on a coach (national express) which is a proper bargain if you dont mind coaches. See their website for details.

I've travelled a lot on Midland Mainline and nearly always found them to be brilliant. Sometimes they run a bit late, but usually only by 10 mins or so. £17 return to London is fab isn't it? and £27 first class is great too.

Hubby travels Midland Mainline every week to London to work and his ticket is around £180 !!!! Makes £17 sound a real bargain.

Might just book one for myself and meet hubby for lunch!

The latest £17 & £27 offers are by invitation only. Which means if you go to the station to book you have to have a leaflet or voucher, or you won't be sold one. Obviously nothing stopping phone bookings though - if you trust the call centres that you are calling (I personally wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw em!)

Availability is already VERY limited from what I can gather though.

I called up the call centre and I got the offer.

If you go to the train station you might get away with saying you saw the promotion in the papers and just quote the 2 words.

A tip with the call centre is phone them a a few times to get a quote because I phoned them got a really expensive price then later i phoned again and got a cheaper price :suspect: I think some of them dont care and some are nice and tell you when you can get a cheaper price.

Or you could book online at www.midlandmainline.com/toextra although you are required to fill in an online survey before you get to the booking bit....

Tis' about time.

That is a very good offer as well, however the Central Trains version does get you there quicker and leaves later... However thats not on until June because of works at Uttoxeter :(

The Central Trains package involves 2 trains and a bus, the bus is a normal scheduled First bus service (number 32A), which is a bus up to First's normal low standards, is often severely overcrowded, and often runs late and misses the train at Uttoxeter. Oh and it's more expensive!

The 32A is the one that Towers employee's get :P

Ive been on the CT Towers thing, and ive never had any problems.

Ive got a season pass now however, so I go by car!

if you want cheap fares to London and don't mind comfort being an issue megabus.com do some execellent deals to london from sheffield starting at a pound. Only problem travel is on a double decker bus, and it takes about 4 to 4 and half hours. It drops off next door to victoria station so its pretty central. They pick up near Roxys jsut in front of the polytechnic building

There is now a new offer!!

On the day of me travelling down to london, i received the £15 London return promotional offer through the post!

Think the offer runs till the end of May. Take up the offer while you can! :)

Heard too many horror stories about Megabus :( Id prefer national express..more reliable, they still offer the fun fares which starts from £1 just depends what time you want to travel down.

I got a good deal with midland mainline-for couples return its £30 together in april. When I booked them there were no special deals so it pays to have a look around-and try book in groups instead of singles!

My partner booked at the station last Saturday for a day return to London. All cheap tickets for Fri 08 April had gone! He could travel before 0800.....for £108 though! In the end he settled for £31 return departing after 09.00. However, you have to travel back before 21.00, else the price increases. No time to see a show.
