Greetings from South Africa :)

Thought I would get acquainted with all you Sheffielders as I'll be moving to Sheff around beginning next year.

I'm 26, lived in South Africa all my life, Afrikaans speaking and well, at this stage looking for greener grass, hence my move to the UK.

Hello then, looking forward to learning the Sheffield way of thinking and doing things. Something tells me this will be an interesting ride ;)

Thank you :)

This is a test isn't it? Hehe, I need to say something about the local beer and the lovely accent? ;) Well, I have not tasted the beer yet but you *do* have a marvellous accent.

In all seriousness, I have a very good friend there, it seems like a lovely place, from what I've seen and read I love the people, and well, there are places to explore :)

Thank you for the welcome :)

RPG - I just know I'll love the place, thanks :)

Lickszz - I have no idea yet, I will have to see what will be available. Looking at a room to start off with, once I'm settled I'll start looking for a place of my own, but as to the area, I have no idea.

Upholder - Yes, that's right :) Dag, translates into "day", when you add "Goeie" it becomes "Good day", but we do use "dag" on it's own as well.

JTH - Nope, my friend is a Sheffielder to the core ;)

Wha!? How do you know our beer? Are you an ex-South African perhaps or do you have some SA friends? :)

Well, I prefer Black label or Windhoek actually, although I don't really drink much beer (now please don't refuse me my little post in the sun in Sheffield for that statement:P )

Hi, and welcome – unjani?

I lived in Mbabane, Umtata, King Williams Town, Ginsburg (Nkosinathi Biko was a friend), Bisho and Mdantsane during the period 1980–87 – but I was born in Sheffield, and lived here ‘til I was almost 28 – came back five years ago when I emigrated to Canada.

Ps. I miss Mills cigarettes, and, of course the prices of booze and tobacco. By the way, I have come across Castle lager over here – but no ‘England’s Luxury Cigarette’ – interesting that I can’t find them here.

You lived in some beautiful places in SA, I have never been there myself, I'm from up North in Pretoria. What was your view on SA during your time here? Those years were still fullblown Apartheids area.

I walked past someone selling Mills on the street this morning, you actually don't find it everywhere. If there are any other SA products or booze you miss you might want to give The South African Shop (http://www.townandabout.com/Detailed/1800046.html) a visit, they sell all the most popular beers there :)
