I've been left a note this morning to say that I have a parcel waiting to be picked up. Does anybody know if the office on Pond Street is open tommorrow or the weekend . . . .

I doubt it, and even if they are they'll probably shut at dinner or something.

Edit:

Why not ring them and see what times they're open, 0114 273 3455 is the number.

The cards they leave usually have the opening hours printed on them. Of course, those hours are of no use to anyone who has a job.

I have rung, but no answer. As for the times on the card it doesn't say whether they're open bank hols!

In fact, I've just read that I have to leave it now for at least 48hours before i can pick it up . . which will be Easter Sunday!!!

What a great service!

That will probably be 48 working hours too! Remember the bank holiday.

It's not 48 working hours and the cards were changed from 24 hours to 48 last year - even though it says 48 now you can usually get away with 24. It's basically just to give it time to get back through the system - it gets put back in to the system when the posty is on his/her way home from their round and so should usually be available at the sorting office by the next postage day.

I have two cards from royal mail saying they have left stuff at my LDO - one says leave 48 hours; the other says go see them on saturday. Will go to see them saturday and if its not open there will be a nasty letter being written later that day :P

I wouldn't trust a letter. Why waste a stamp? You can complain online and the result's the same - I submitted a complaint and had a polite response saying my issue was being looked into and I would be contacted once they'd investigated. Needless to say I haven't heard anything. Why am I not surprised? The Royal Mail - a communications company that can't communicate.

Don't forget to take ID. Nothing more frustrating than taking the card and on arrival they demand you produce a passport, driving license or similar.

Also, what is the reason why you have to collect? If it is because the letter was too big to get through your letterbox, ok. If it is because there is postage to pay, you could find that on top of your travel costs to Pond Street and back, you'll pay £1 or more for unpaid postage, only to find that you've paid for a circular letter of no importance. This happened to me!

Or a package containing a free sample of disposable nappies, ordered on-line, but not needed, by a bored teenage son who will be in seriously deep dung if it ever happens.

Hope they are reading this:suspect:

I had to go there a few months ago, it took me ages to find because to me it seemed to be behind what I thought was Pond St.
I was expecting some concert tickets for a concert the next day so hurried down there as fast as I could so I didn't miss it shutting at noon. I paid the extra postage costs which was £1.07 (as the sender had not put enough stamps on by 7p the £1 was a charge).

I drove home with the package expecting to see tickets when I opened it and it was a bloody pamphlet thing from Virgin mobile my mum had forwarded on for me.

£1.07 and about an hour all for a stupid pamphlet that went straight in the bin.

The tickets turned up an hour later via courier.
