I read this and worried, what are we teaching our children and more importatly why would they feel it is necessary to embark on a sexual relationship at this age ?

A quarter have had at least 1 partner at 14, aquite a few at 14 had at least 3 sexual partners.

Most used no protection and 60% said they had sex after alcohol.

The good thing out of the survey was 70% wanted to know about sex and love, and thought love and affection was more important than sex.

We have a lot to teach our children, if we are to slow down children getting sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

post withdrawn after a little research, more to come.

Ah - okay, Bliss magazine, aimed at teenagers, questioned 2,000 of its readers whose average age was 14

Almost a quarter of 14-year-old girls claim to have had sex and say they have had an average of three partners, a survey reports today

In other recent news - almost 75% of teenagers admit to lying when filling in surveys with answers varying depending on what they think is funny or cool at the time.
Also Bliss magazine to move into the polling business, Mori reported to be running scared.

If you think they are lying, come and live round here and see the teenage mums and see the sex on the school grounds at night after drinking.

It really does go on and we must do something about it, before it`s too late.

Don't just watch, go over and tell 'em to pack it in.

there are 14 year olds with more of a sex life than me? well thats just not on! then again, I'm pretty proud of being 19 and only having 1 sexual partner :D at least it proves I don't sleep with anything that opens its legs!

although right now I'd be pretty tempted if some random hot women tried it on :hihi:

90% of my class at School had sex before they were 16, about 75% had sex before they were 14, and I know only 3 people in my yeargroup who left school as Virgins (aged 18).

And I live in an area that's supposedly got a low rate of underage sex and teenager pregnancies :loopy:

Those figures surely can't be accurate, unless assemblies regularly turned into wild Bacchanalian orgies at your school. (If so, I wish I'd gone there :))

Three people in a yeargroup leave as virgins? Come on! These things are always exaggerated by way of peer pressure.

Things must have changed over the years as I wasn't seeing this kind of action at 14...at that age I was scouring Rivelin for Tarzan swings to fray to the point where they'd snap right in mid-swing!

Unless Hook slept with them all and can work out the percentage that said no.

They're obviously not accurate, and yeah there were only 3 people who were openly virgins. Most people 'lost it' at rather promiscuous parties, where there was lots of booze, which in turn lead to lots of sex.... and well... those were the days

Yeah, I guess you don't get many kids (or adults, apart from Anne Widdecombe - eeurgh) who shout about how they are virgins.

Those parties sound wicked. At the ones I went to people were too busy throwing up out of the window, dancing like lunatics to industrial rave music or putting hamsters in the microwave to indulge in hanky-panky.

I don't think I've ever seen a hamster put in a microwave, but I've seen more than enough people throwing up over beautiful creme sofa's :gag:

After one party one of my friends parents had to throw away their two sofas, and the carpet in their living room. Needless to say I don't think they've ever gone away without having a relative over to look after their kids!

My eldest daughter is 16 and still a virgin she will be 17 in july (she will kill me for this) most of her friends have had sex, some have had abortions and 3 have had children.

Thank goodness my daughter seems to be a rareity these days!

My middle daughter age 14 in May has just learnt how to put a condom on at school!

Hopefully she will not succumb to peer pressure and be sensible enough to wait before she puts one on the real thing!

I don't think most of them, especially the girls, realise that when they get to 30 they'll be single because no guy is interested in a girl thats been around a block a million times, and definitly nobodys interested in a guy who's probably got 20 kids he doesnt know about and every STD known to man :?

personally, I'm quite happy with the fact I didnt lose my virginity till just before I was 18 and that I've only slept with 1 person who I was in a long r/ship with.

although, I think its about time I got into another r/ship to increase the number to 2 people :hihi:

Oh so true. People like to think things like this are old fashioned and sexist, and they dont matter, but they do.

Just tell their intended to be sure and make the engagement long enough for whatever condition they have to erupt. :hihi:

And xafier, you sound like a real gentleman. Don't compromise your values. My friends and I would have given our eye teeth to know someone like you. Gentlemen were few and far between in the neck of the woods I come from.

You're so young! You have lots of time. There ARE girls out there who appreciate a nice guy. A guy who's interested in having a good time and getting to know them. Who doesn't try to hustle them into bed after talking to them for 5 minutes, or lie to them, or use them for what they can get out of them, or tell them what they want to hear just to get into their pants.

Then go tell all their friends about it.

I'm sorry to say many people don't appreciate someone with alot of integrity until they get much older.

It's so not fair, but it's true. Men will overlook or treat "nice" girls like doody for the chance to take out some sl*t with the hope of sampling some of what she's giving away. And women will treat decent men the same way to be with some slimy creep who either makes alot of money, or has a trust fund, or who looks like Brad Pitt. And good looking doesn't always equal nice.

I must admit I was somewhat guilty of this myself when I was younger. But I soon found out that money doesn't buy class.

You are a gentlemen. And I know what I'm talking about. I grew up in California. In the seventies. I didn't see a gentlemen until I met my husband. And I didn't let him get away. lol.

its a sign of the times where are our kids tonight? almost eight thirty and mine are here with me, are modern ( parents ) bothered any more ?or are they so stressed out they are just glad to be shut of the kids for a while so they can have a few hours at the pub or do the smokey thing? most of the young parents i know come from homes that the parents seperated when the children were young , the parents still bieng young need to expierience their youth and in so doing tend to let the kids have more freedom so they themselves have more of the same freedom, im not condeming any one, ive been divorced three times, but each time, ive taken my kids with me when i left, and im a bloke who spends his weekends taking his kids fishing rock climbing, days out to the coast etc , responsibility is what you take on when you have a child, you can never turn your back on them, even with all their faults and mistakes that they make as they grow up.

one day they will realise that all the lectures you give them were for their own good, even if they never listened. how many of us have said ......if i knew then what i know now i wouldnt be doing this or be in this situation

youth is wasted on the young.....some one once said

I think it's sad that a magazine is informing its readers about the majority of its target "audience" having sex at such a young age. I'm sorry, but I'm teaching my daughter that virginity is a big deal, and about how incredible sex is with someone who loves you back measure for measure.

The way children are taught about sex education in school cheapens the act - there is no emphasis placed on love and caring.

Bliss is a notorious magazine for making teenage girls more mature than they really should be. It's also read by a lot of pre-teens.

sorry, by this time of night the long posts looked a bit boring.

If i'd been asked at 14, in a magazine poll or in person whether i was a virgin i'd have probably said no.

I also went to the obligatory experimental drunken parties, but nobody I knew made it past a drunken bit of funlbing and kissing. And we aren't talking about back in the 80's.

Unless the people responding to the poll were medically examinined, i think we should discount it as completely unreliable.

All the above replies show , how once again the Control Freaks and Do "Gooders" have had their advice and hand-wringing thrown in their faces.
For years and years , teenagers have been advised in schools , on T.V , on the radio , in magazines and By God Knows Who Else , on the dangers of under-age sex or all about safe sex.....etc......etc.......and I don't think it's made the slightest difference. As someone could have told them about a thousand years ago , a lot of teenagers will actually go for what they see as dangerous or exciting or , maybe anti-adult.
However , the hand-wringers and bleeding hearts , probably under American influence , have continued bleating on and having no effect---oh , yeah , and spending millions of pounds of our money in the process ! {"This problem must be tackled and the government must give us X millions to tackle it "}
Whatever it is that will reduce teenage pregnancies , under-age sex and all the related problems , it certainly isn't lecturing teenagers , boringly , for year after year and almost driving them to do the opposite of the aim !
One thing that might help solve the problem in fact , maybe , is to stop pandering to teenagers all the time and making out that Society owes them a living. There used to be a song that went , "Putting on the agony , putting on the style , that's what all the young folk are doing all the while " .How true ! Also , it might be worth looking at countries which have never had this problem and try to spot the social differences.
