View Full Version : The nearest Halifax
sparklesista 24-03-2005, 13:24 Hiya
Does anyone know where there is a Halifax branch near crystal peaks that I can get to by tram? It seems I'm always having to get the tram into town but there must be one nearer than that surely? I have to pay a cheque in so the branch needs to have counter service. Anyone know of anywhere? :)
bobsyouruncle 24-03-2005, 13:31 Hi, i bank with the Halifax, and my local is close by, maybe you could put your details in here (http://www.halifax.co.uk/contactus/wheretofindus.shtml) and see if you get any joy:thumbsup:
goodluck!!
You could try their branch locater (http://www.halifax.co.uk/contactus/wheretofindus.shtml) but it doesn't look like there is one near.
investigator 24-03-2005, 13:32 There's a Halifax Agency opposite the big Co-op in Woodhouse and a Halifax Estate Agents near Wilkinsons in Crystal Peaks but i'm not sure whether they have a banking counter.
sparklesista 24-03-2005, 13:35 Thanks for that everyone. Looks like I'm off into town once again! :)
ToryCynic 24-03-2005, 15:23 I'm sure there is a Halifax branch on Ecclesall Road - there is a Midland and LloydsTSB - maybe there is a Halifax - or does this not save as trip into town and therefore miles out from the town...?
Alex
sparklesista 24-03-2005, 15:48 Going to Eccleshall Road would be a further trip for me and you can't get to it by tram :)

Yes, they do. I have used it often.
Missbrum 24-03-2005, 19:18 There is actually a Halifax at Crystal Peaks, in the bus station area opposite the estate agents :)

I thought that was just an estate agency?
Does it have counter service so I can pay a cheque in?

I've always thought that too... I know the HSBC bank there now officially sucks, you can only pay notes into a stupid machine because they got rid of the counters, its like the worst branch ever!
What happens if I've got tons of copper to pay into my bank? or a large sum of money? gotta drag my ass into town increasing my chances of being mugged, rather than just walking 5mins down the road :P yeahhhh that sounds a great idea!

Lots of HSBC branches have got rid of counters. Why not protest by moving your accounts to a bank that still provides that service?

By the way, you could post the cheque to them, with a paying-in slip, and they would deal with it for you. This would save you travelling.
Some banks also let you pay in at the Post Office, but not Halifax.

The Halifax don't have paying inslips so make sure you put your account number , sort code, and ROLL NUMBER on any documentation.

No, but when I used to be with the Halifax they had the envelopes that you could pop the money into (very similar to LloydsTSBs "deposit point" feature. Also similar to Midland's
"chuck it in the chute option too.

sparklesista 25-03-2005, 16:45 Thanks for the information everyone.
I will go and check the one at Crystal Peaks and then let you all know just to put the record straight.
Fingers crossed that it does have counter service else I'm doomed to travelling all the way into town!

Has there been an alien invasion that has wiped South Yorkshire of branches?????
Just thought I'd ask as there seems to be nothing on this forum regarding 'Halifax Building Societies'.
If anyone can let me know it would help - that little bit Extra.
Thanks.

rubydazzler 26-03-2005, 07:34 There's a Halifax in Balderson's (a local estate agents) on Chesterfield Rd at Woodseats shopping centre.
As you're already online, why not just log onto the Halifax website and check it out?
Didn't they merge/get taken over by/take over RBS a while back? One wonders if there's some reaxamination of business underway.
I think there's a Camberwick Green mini mini mini branch in Woodhouse village opposite the co-op.
Unregistered 26-03-2005, 10:06 Who cares ?
I prefer the Yorkshire Building Society.

What's that then...the Halifax Bank of Scotland ??
Sounds a bit Irish to me
The Hillsborough Halifax has two cash machines externally. Within a couple of hundred metres there's one in the Co-Op, one at HSBC and one at NatWest. Nearer the ground there's one or two at the Esso garage and probably some others. There may well be one at the ground but I've come unstuck before assuming that the cash machine nearest my destination will be working/have money/not be covered in burger/strawberry shake.
Mod: All 6 threads merged! Always do a search before starting topics please!

Certainly not just you, it was aimed at the small amount of people who seem to want to turn every topic into a discussion about Halifax.
By the way, I was joking when I said you'd get a ban if you mention Halifax again.
We'll send the boys around instead.
Thank Christ for that. I was going to ask if anyone knows the best route to Halifax in the near future.:P
sparklesista 26-03-2005, 16:19 I would just like to say that I DID do a search and nothing came up which is why I started the tread and with my post being at the top I think you can take the blame a way from me :D

You're not to blame, this was the first topic about Halifax. It was when about 7 others were started the trouble began.
Gets ready to snitch on anyone who mentions Halifax outside this thread.
bobsyouruncle 26-03-2005, 16:30 I apologize for jumping on the "Halifax" Bandwagon, my first post was actually quite genuine to sparkle.

Crystal Peaks does have a counter service.
Only Main branches (in Town) have the deposit envelopes.

Kristian 27-03-2005, 22:11 It beggars belief that some kindly souls are still posting maps and directions to their nearest branches! Do folk not know when they're being wound up? I can normally tell, I just look for Owdlad's name! ;)

Found this on the BBC3 site :
According to The Sun, you "fly from Gatwick to Houston, Texas. Pick up car and take the Hardy Toll Road North. Merge on to Interstate 45. Take ramp on to Interstate 35E. Turn right on to Highway 287, merge on to Highway 281. Turn left on to Highway 287, then left again on to Interstate 40.
Follow signs to Amarillo. Time: 19 hours, 54 minutes. Distance: 5,540 miles."
However, Greg Harding, from Dallas, Texas contacted BBC News to point out:
"The Sun has gone somewhat round the houses to get to Amarillo. You can fly straight there from either Houston or Dallas.
