Plain Talker 19-04-2008, 19:31 The chap who plays the "villain", Sylar, in the cult series, "Heroes", Zachary Quinto (?) is reported to be playing the young Spock in this film. Sadly I've heard nothing more about it. Agent Gypo 19-04-2008, 20:13 It's being made by JJ Abrams (Lost, Cloverfield), so I'm expecting 2 hours of the Enterprise being attacked by something we never see, and then all the crew die without any explanation. *Wallace* 19-04-2008, 20:15 Watched Cloverfield today it was pretty good. Rich 19-04-2008, 20:15 It will suck. Apart from Generations and First Contact, all the Trek movies since Star Trek 6 (the one where the Klingon Ambassador gets assassinated) have been pants IMO. Beakerzoid 19-04-2008, 20:36 The trailer can be seen http://www.startrekmovie.com/ Official cast news can be seen http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/MOV/011/index.html From the news section at the official site.. The latest Star Trek film is being produced by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof. Bryan Burk, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are the executive producers. The script has been written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and J.J. Abrams will direct. The project was announced in April 2006, and went into production in November 2007, with shooting expected to last through March 2008. In June 2007 it was revealed that Zachary Quinto (Heroes) and Leonard Nimoy will portray Spock in the film (related story). Subsequent casting announcements have included Chris Pine as Kirk, Karl Urban as McCoy, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Zoë Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, and John Cho as Sulu. Christopher Pike, Kirk's predecessor in command of the U.S.S. Enterprise, will be part of the story, and that role will be filled by Bruce Greenwood. There will be a villain named "Nero," played by Eric Bana. Nero's cohort "Ayel" will be played by Clifton Collins Jr. Winona Ryder will portray "Amanda Grayson," Spock's human mother, and Chris Hemsworth will be a young "George Kirk," father of James T. Kirk. I am kinda excited at the idea of the film. Acting as a sort-of reboot of the franchise, whilst also (somehow - I can only guess at time-travel) supposedly being a part of the continuity (Leonard Nimoy is in it as aged Spock, with Quinto playing the young vulcan). The idea is to go back to the early days of NCC-1701, with the classic crew, and get Trek back to what it was - hopefully expunging, once and for all, the terrible memories of Voyager! It was originally due out for Christmas this year, but has been shunted to the heavy May release slot (usually a time for big-hitter films as the summer season officially opens) as Paramount reckon they have a hit on their hands. The teaser trailer doesn't tell much (it is just construction of Enterprise) but I felt goosbumps when i first saw it on the big screen. bluecanary 20-04-2008, 15:40 I wonder whether they will try and match the look and feel of the 60's series with all the 'computers' full of random flashing lights etc. Can't wait to see Simon Pegg as Scotty! SpiderPete 20-04-2008, 15:48 The line-up looks quite good, but IMO I cannot see much fighting in this, anyone know who the baddies will be ? Special effects battle scenes = very little fitbird 20-04-2008, 18:33 Thanks for all your replies and trailer link. had a good look at it so my popcorn will be ready for the big day. Beakerzoid 20-04-2008, 19:10 The line-up looks quite good, but IMO I cannot see much fighting in this, anyone know who the baddies will be ? Special effects battle scenes = very little All that is known about the baddies is that Eric Bana is one, and he is called Nero. He has a collegue called Ayel. JJ Abrahms is keeping the details of the film very close to his chest, so don't expect too much revealed yet. I imagine when the full trailer arrives late this year we will start to get a bit more of an idea as to what to expect. Some of the line up seems top quality, with Quinto as Spock being the best match ever. Definitely love the idea of Karl Urban as Bones - he has the same rugged looks - but not overly convinced with Pegg as Scotty (the only think he has in common with James Doohan is that neither of them are Scottish). I love Peggy, but can't see him in the part. Funky_Gibbon 20-04-2008, 21:16 The only way they can make this work is if whenever there is a fight scene all of the stunt doubles look nothing like the character they are supposed to be... just like in the good old days! |
