The cat has just come in with an injured paw - clearly in a lot of pain. My own vet is shut now - can anyone suggest a vet that is open in Saturday all day?

Thanks

Abbey Vets, Dodworth Road in Barnsley if you can get there and cant find one closer Tel: 01226 242217, they have a branch in Chapletown too but not sure if that one is open today

Highfields is open for another hour or so- London Road.

There's also one in Woodseats which is open until 5 I think (Strix may be the one to ask about this- I seem to remember her mentioning it).

Thanks, people :-)

When we came down (late!) this morning the cat was limping badly and obviously in a *lot* of pain. No sign of visible injury. Highfields was open when I rang, and she's got antibiotics and a pain killer, with another appointment on Tuesday morning provided she doesn't need an emergency vet over the weekend.

sorry I missed this thread

vets aren't really allowed to see other vets patients, (though peak vets say they'd never turn away an injured animal), so it really is worth examining your own vet's policy on out of hours and choosing one that really does suit you

we had a night time visit with one of our visiting bunnies , they are great and very helpful.
It nice to see a vets not using the on call place in newhall, that what i llike about Peak Vets.

I didn't know this - some of my animals have been to 2 different vets. Neither one ever asked if they were registered elsewhere...

well if you think about it, you want a full set of records for your pet - so you don't wind up prescribed conflicting drugs!

Our vets have never had a problem treating other vets patients - if an animal is in need are they really likely to refuse to treat it if you are paying and it needs help. It's never been a problem with any of our boarders or other animals in our care as we get full details from the owner (including the name of their usual vet) so can always try to contact the usual vet if needs be.

E.g last summer we turned up at someones house to find their dog suffering from serious heat stroke. I wrapped it in a damp towel and got it to the nearest vet where it required intensive fluid therapy. We were told that without any doubt, had we not done what we did or had we tried to get to the customers own vet that dog would have died within the hour!!!!.

vets usually are happy to treat animals staying with you (eg Brude has been to the vets Mr Strix's mum uses), so I can see how your vets would treat any animal in your care HH :)

if you havent already found somewhere you could try the PDSA Animal Hospital

vets are allowed to treat an injured animal. Is happens all time if you think about it, for instance when an injured animal is taken to a rescue centre, the rescue centre will take it to there nearest vets and they do treat them.
