I have a 6 month old baby girl and sometimes I am at a loss as to what to do. I live in the beauchief area - but there are only so many times you can walk through millhouses park. I don't have access to a car during the day without prior arrangement so I am a bit limited but I don't mind walking. I know there are baby groups and swimming but does anybody know of anything else going on. Thanks

What about your neighbours? . . do you talk to them, find out if they have children and they will probably be able to let you know of the best things for kids in that area. Organise a lunch or ask them to come round for a cuppa.

You can hire out video's & dvd's for babies - teletubbies etc & keep them occupied.

Once you know your neighbours well enough, if they have little ones as well - you could arrange a toddler morning at each others house on certain days etc . .

Why not take up a hobby - make things for your baby, like toys, teddies, clothes, hats etc. . You could even begin writing! use your imagination and write a story for your child, see how you go.

Painting is a great time-passer! there are all sorts of baby-friendly crayons and paints around nowadays, & trust me babies love em!!. Whilst your young un is splattering on paper - you could be sat drawing or painting.

If all else fails - buy a playstation!!

Let us know how you get on!:P

The Children's Information Service in town can give you lots of information regarding activities etc for your postcode. Babytime at local libraries is really good (stories, singing etc) and there a few music groups for babies but I think these may be oversubscribed.

Hi New Mum (sorry didn't catch your name) I can totally sympathise with your plight. I myself am a new mum of a beautiful 7 month old son and adorable as he is there is only so much dribble, nappy changing and baby talk you can take. I guess your kean to get involved in more mentally stimulating activities. Do you mind me asking how old you are and what you use to do before you had your baby. I am a young mum of 21 and a former psychology student. I am involved in a student mums society which keeps me involved with women who I relate to not only on 'baby' terms. Get back to me maybe I can help.

HI Mack.
I'm a mum of 3. Daughter aged 17 and 2 year old twins (one of each) and also live in Beauchief. Here are a few suggestions:
feed the ducks at the ponds at Beauchief Abbey,
mother and baby group at the little church on Hutcliffe wood road on Thursday mornings,
music club (millhouses church or merlin theatre nether edge),
baby gym (Gymini) at Fulwood Scouts hut - for when your baby's walking,
heeley city farm, Graves park rare breeds centre,
generally walking around and decking off other peoples houses,
If your interested in Psychology/child development contact the University of Sheffield and add your baby to their database. I went along three times with my twins and helped out with the students studies into memory. The babes had fun - just played with puppets- and got free books at the end. You get to talk to interesting people. Good fun!
I'll have another think and post again when I'm less tired.
Have fun!
