It has been clarified that pensioners already recieving full Council Tax Benefit by virtue of Means Tested Low Income will not recieve the £200 announced in the budget.
This is logical.

However, the sad part is that those pensioners entitled to Council Tax Benefit but not claiming, will also not recieve the £200.
This is estimated to affect 5% of OAP households.
Many have a low income that would entitle them to CBT but find the level of detail required in filling out the 24-page Means Test Forms, demeaning or confusing.

A little from column A and a little from column B, surely a long term gain for the nations elderly would be more beneficial rather than a vote clamouring, one off sweetener.

I believe that a society can be judged by its treatment of elderly....... to any outsider our elected government treats them as simpletons and a reservoir of grey votes that can be bought with a paltry gift.

Considering my poll tax is almost £1000 this year I'd be very pleased to receive any refund!
