View Full Version : Ps3 help needed to get on line xxmelovexx 18-04-2008, 15:20 my son wants his ps3 his room and to be able to use internet already got wirless what leads do i need and how :help::help: Rich 18-04-2008, 15:28 You'd be better off asking in the Computer and Tech chat area about this. Or look on the FAQs on Playstation.com UK FAQs (http://uk.playstation.com/help-support/ps3/faqs/?page=3/) RazorSHarp 18-04-2008, 15:32 You can connect it to most wireless routers by going into the settings on the ps3 and selecting wireless, then follow the instructions and it should automatically find your router. If you are using Virgin you will have to manually input your dns settings and get the IP address from them direct, don't mention to them it's for a ps3 as they don't support this unit and will be unhelpful. (very unhelpful) xxmelovexx 18-04-2008, 15:37 i can get to search but cant get no further RazorSHarp 18-04-2008, 15:43 You may need to do it manually then, You may need to input the ip address of your wirless router into the settings section. This should be on the bottom of your router Danny_Boy 18-04-2008, 15:46 You will also need you wep/wpa key as I had to enter it manually tbh setting the ps3 up online was a right ball ache it took me almost 3 hours and stressed me out no end. Although it was worth it in the end. mat1978 18-04-2008, 15:51 Yep as above. I did my sisters, she had the AOL deal and for some reason their is no WEP key on the router. Best thing is to do a wired connection first, this will then send the settings you need to your PS3. Should work wirelessly after that. Im no expert with computers at all but was nuch easier doing the wired connection first. PuressenceUK 18-04-2008, 16:03 Sure it's wise giving a young lad unsupervised internet access in their room? I know what that's in aid of! Danny_Boy 18-04-2008, 16:13 Sure it's wise giving a young lad unsupervised internet access in their room? I know what that's in aid of! Its so he can play against other people on a games console I imagine. I was with Talk/Talk and the router also didnt have the wep key on it I had to ring there special tech line to get it and enter it manually its a pain but I am sure there is a guide in the manual that comes with the PS3 its not perfect but it works eventually. RazorSHarp 18-04-2008, 16:13 Never thought about doing a wired connection first.. that may have saved me hours of turning the air blue. Danny_Boy 18-04-2008, 16:16 Never thought about doing a wired connection first.. that may have saved me hours of turning the air blue. I tried the wired connection which meant moving the console closer to the router as you have to connect using the red ethernet cable and after all that it didnt save any of the settings anyways and I had to get the wep key from my provider so I wouldnt worry about that mate as I turned the air blue and nearly sent £400 worth of console through the front room window when I found out this wouldnt work. Rob_1 18-04-2008, 21:27 Setting a PS3 up wirelessly is a 2 minute job - go to internet settings, wireless connection, auto detect and it will find the network - select it, choose WEP (assuming thats what you're using) - enter the WEP code and thats it. If you haven't got the WEP code it's easily done by accessing the router configuration page from your PC - Netgear's address is 192.168.0.1 (just type this into the address bar) some other routers are 192.168.1.1 - if you aren't sure just have a look in the instruction book and it should tell you the IP address, if not do a google search and you'll find it. Password is usually 'password' (on Sky routers the password is 'sky') and username is usually 'admin' - again this is easily findable via google without having to waste money ringing your ISP. From this page you can check and alter all your router, wireless and security settings. Rich 19-04-2008, 09:12 And obviously, do not use AOhell or TalkTalk as your ISP if you want to play PS3 online! Danny_Boy 22-04-2008, 16:51 And obviously, do not use AOhell or TalkTalk as your ISP if you want to play PS3 online! I use TalkTalk Rich and my PS3 plays fine online its only not worked twice in the last 4 months but that was due to server issues with the Playstation network. TalkTalk are imo not very good but not due to connection issues more because I was miss sold their product by the Carphone Warehouse and because its quite slow compared to when I was with Tiscali. |
