Can anyone help?

I have a list that must be able to be constantly updated by multiple users. I have created many views of this list for certain groups of people - but need to know of a way to restrict all users from messing with those views while retianing the ability to create their own views.

Any ideas? I had imagined this would be simple under Site Settings > Permissions > Permission Levels > Edit Permission Level
but I can seem to get it to work!

Have you set the Sharepoint server up from bare metal or are you trying to set permissions on a specific document?

Tin built from scratch (though not just by me)

Though this is more of an admin fuction im struggling with rather than technical. Im trying to set permissions on a list view, rather than a specific document or field in the list.

I can lock everyone out by making it read only - but I need to allow everyone to update the fields in the list. I've posted on a couple of SP forums, and it seems it cant be done (another addition to the list when it comes to SharePoint) unless anyone has a workaround. I cant think of one.
