1) POT HOLES

As the Star only just realised the extent of the problem?

2) WOMEN DRIVER

Women driver asking for a speed camera on a Sheffield road, just because there was a crash at a roundabout.

"Speed cameras need to be installed soon – it's the only thing that will stop them."

Well Tracy, this is obviously not true, after all you did a pretty good job at stopping them! :hihi: :hihi:

That's an interesting statement from the speed camera partnership chap, that speed cameras would only usually be installed if there have been three or four fatal or serious accidents in the last few years. Perhaps he could tell us when the three or four such accidents took place close to the speed camera that is now sited on Penistone Rd, for example. I must somehow have missed them.

The very one, with hardly any signs informing you that the road is only a 30, despite having 3 lanes, at that point :loopy: :loopy:

That article about the roads is correct, potholes exist on many roads.

It does not matter how many lanes there are if the speed limit is 30 then the speed limit is 30. You only get remingers of the speed limit at 40 50 60,best to assume then that 30 is the limit.
A lot of drivers have got the idea that the signs mean minimum speed.

Driving at 30mph on a 60mph road can often be more dangerous than doing 34mph on a 30mph road.

Also, there doesn't exist a driver that hasn't exceeded the speed limit at one time or another, so the self-righteousness of some sticks in my craw a little bit.

Thanks for that totally useless bit of info, go take a trip to the pub in your Lada Riva, where I’m sure your half a bitter & Daily Mail will be awaiting you!...

IF THE IDEA OF A SPEED CAMERA IS TO REDUCE SPEED - THEN PROMOTE THE SPEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you read your highway code recently? There isn't a repeater sign for 30 MPH. Repeaters are only used on 40 MPHand 50 MPH zones because they are deviations from the standard national speed limit for that class of road.

That speed camera on penistone road is RIDICULOUS. The other side of the road is a 40 zone, there are no pedestrians, shops or anything else, only warehouses.

It makes me CROSS.

It doesn't help when Penistone Road's a dual carriageway. I'm driving along a dual carriageway... I'll nudge up to 40. There are no signs telling me anything to the contrary... I'll keep going at 40... Camera flashes! B******r, what was that? I'm only doing 40!

There's a severe flaw in the highways law that prevents the use of 30 repeaters, particularly on roads that the Highway Code has taught you to expect to be a 40 zone.

So where exactly does the Highway Code teach you to expect a 40 mph limit in these conditions?

Almost any road with street lights (in a town - not the M1) will be 30 limit. The repeaters are to show a variance from this - usually 40 or 50. However, someone in this town has taken away lots of the 40 and 50 repeater signs, or have they just fallen off? It would be very handy to have them back please. Make the limit clear, especially where it varies on otherwise very similar roads, or where the limit appears illogical (Pensitone Road, Bochum Parkway etc). Some might say there is a policy of causing unclear requirements and then parking the cash grabber (sorry camera) in exactly that area. Interesting to note that, as metalman said, the cameras are most definitely not always in the 'danger' zones.

pfffffffffffffffff

When travelling down Halifax Road (40MPH) there is only 1 VERY SMALL sign indicating that you are entering a 30 zone.

I for example am totally aware of the speeds limits - but my point is (the point which you have clearly missed) why not advertise the Speed limits more often (for example below 1 of the 260 speed camera warning signs, on that stretch of road)

BTW

Penistone Road is still only a 30MPH road, as the council forgot to upgrade it, when the road was converted from a single carriageway.

It won't be long before a Lada Riva is the only kind of standard saloon car that will cope with Sheffield's roads :D

There will be a standard size (easy to see if your eyes are to the standard required to drive) at any speed change. Then regular smaller, repeater signs on stretches of road above 30mph. If these are missing, report it to the council.

The cameras are also painted bright yellow.

There are "Speed Camera" signs all over the place.

How much warning do you want.

Is it only me that thinks that the only people that moan about speed cameras are the ones dumb enough to get caught.

I think it must be!

I for one have never been caught, and i for one will never stop moaning about them

This is not a legal requirement - and many in the UK are not.

Anyhows seems the scammers are oving onto a new money making scheme, bikers beware!
