Lickable 24-03-2005, 09:12 The lead Dalek (Davros) looks like this

Inside a regular Dalek its a green slug like creature.
The thing inside a Dalek that looks like a rotten and very disgruntled omlette is the "evolved" form of a once bipedal race that I think were called the "Kaleds". Davros, the "creator" of the Daleks realised that his species were heading for this rather unpleasant evolutionary change and created the robotic portion of the Dalek as form of locomotion so that they could carry on their conquering ways despite the fact that their descendents were destined to resemble something that would look more in place inside King Kong's handerchief.

He scared me s**tless when I was a kid.
There was an episode where they showed you daleks in some kind of incubators, they were like brains with tantacles, I remember one attacking Tom Baker before he blew them all up.
That was "watch from behind the sofa" episode.
Swan_Vesta 24-03-2005, 10:00 Joy riding chavs ......... Davros get's really irritated with the little charvers twocking his daleks. They're hell bent on conquering the universe in search of white lightening, scratch cards and tabs.
I found this, which looks like what went for Tom Baker

Wasn't that "Genesis of the Daleks" in which the scarf-wearing Doctor travelled to the planet Skaro and had the chance to destroy the Daleks before they became a threat?
One thing I always wondered: I can see the use of the raygun thingie...but why did they need the plunger?
Did we only ever see the Dalek equivalent of plumbers and odd-job men?
Now that would be an interesting episode of Life of Grime!

Thats the one I was thinking of, but he coudn't do it, I was shouting "do it, do it, blow them up", from behind the sofa.

Ah, the old "ethics of destroying a species" dilemma...but I think that if there was ever a species that deserved it then the Daleks would have been first in line every time...in galactic terms they were a constant pain in the arse!

WallBuilder 24-03-2005, 23:58 Harking back to the days of my youth I seem to remember a film with Peter Cushing playing the doctor and the little creature in the dalek looked like a frog with one eye and long spindly arms.
There must of been daleks with something more than the glorified sink plungers as they could build things, the plungers seemed to be for pushing people around so they must of had a gentle side as surely a spike would of been so much more efficient for jabbing people into motion?
According to this site http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A395723
Daleks were mutated life forms that were placed in mechanical suits for survival. They started out as Kaleds, who were humanoids living on the planet Skaro. For whatever reason, the Kaleds got into a nuclear brawl with the Thals (some other humanoids on Skaro), which resulted in the virtual extinction of the Thals and the extreme irradiation of the planet. The radiation caused the Kaleds to mutate into small, defenseless, green blobs. Realizing that his race would eventually end up as blobs, a Kaled scientist named Davros developed robotic armour suits (shaped rather like salt shakers) to contain, support, and defend the mutated Kaleds. These became known as Daleks.
You can find out a whole load of other stuff like how they worked and were created here [scroll down past the ads !]

BrainThrust 27-03-2005, 15:30 According to Russell T. Davies (the new scriptwriter) the daleks in this series can "fly like ********"
