Following on from the thread below, I nominate Wicker Man by Pulp. Just love the references to the cafe at Forge Dam

Surely the only candidate for this is Pulp's "Sheffield Sex City"?

It's got to be 'It's Grim up North' by the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, otherwise known as the KLF. Sheffield gets a mention, as do lots of other places not far away. The title, I believe, was meant to be ironic in that it was really a celebration of Northern raves.

What about our Capo's The Sheffield Grinder?

Mile end was about mile end in london.
My favorite pulp lyrics are :-
The old town still looks the same.
Like a jumble sale left out in the rain.
I cannot for the life of me remember the sond

His new ablum is Cole's Corner.
Another album and something heared from many Star salesmen...Late night final.

And not forgetting the song naked in Pitsmoor.

I'd second the Wickerman. It mentions so many different places, and Jarvis discribes them so well it's just like you're there with him.

Sheffield:Sex City is a close second mind.

Both great songs.

Chelsea by Hiem. Not strictly about Sheffield, but about events that take place there anyway.

Slightly north of Sheffield, there was a song a while ago, I seem to remember, called something like Barnsley Bill.

I only heard it once or twoce, and I think it had some refrain such as 'tripe, tripe, tripe and chips'

Don't remember much more.

Does anyone know it was by, what it was called and what it was all about, apart from being a general celebration of Yorkshirehood.

A set of lyrics woyld be good, because I remember the words making me smile

I always though 'Common People' was more aout London wannabes - St Martin's College is down there, isn't it?

I passed a building in London last week that had 'St Martin's College of Art' or something similar on the facade and immediately found myself singing Common People as I wandered through the throngs of Southerners....:)
