There's a great place in Newcastle called 'The Gate' it's home to Tiger, Tiger, Hide and many other bars, but it's not cheap! (If you go there pop into Hide, the one in Newcastle is the third one we opened, and although it's quite small, it's a nice place for a pizza & a cocktail!). There's a 'club' called Stereo, which is quite nice mid week for a chill out drink, and it's quite packed on a Friday/Saturday night. There's also Pitcher & Piano on they keyside which has beautiful views over the Millennium Bridge and the Baltic, there's quite a few other places around there too.

I've only ever really done 'stylish' nights out in Newcastle, so I can't really help with cheap nights, but I'd argue that I know the best places!

I'm sure however that there are a fair few geordies out there who'd argue with me!

This might also be helpful (I've taken it to the Stereo page for you, but have a browse around.. there's a few others listed. Personally I don't like Apartment or Revolution, and I've not been to the others!) http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/newcastle/stereo-newcastle.htm

And the website for Hide, is http://www.hidebar.com/newcastle_index.html

i went on a hen do couple of years ago up there - we dressed as the Pink Ladies! had a really fantastic night, we went round the pubs and bars along the river, can't remember the name of the area ? probably the Keys or something like that ?! I remember going across a bridge to go to a club I believe was called Ba-Ha. The bars we were in all seemed quite classy.

My main memory of the time is how nice everyone is and how friendly! Especially the boys!!!! You'll have a great time.

The Ba-Ha Beach Club (I think it was called) on the Quayside? I'm not sure if that's still there.. last time I went there was a few years ago, they used to do Friday nights live from the Ba-Ha on Metro Radio!

yeh!! thats it! its was raining heavily (Newcastle in November) we got soaked, spent the rest of the night dancing, downing shots, stepping on broken glass and generally being bad!

I remember thinking it wouldn't be that good if I was sober or not on a hen night. but we were - so all is good! really must go up there again very soon.

Had a good time shopping in the Metro Centre before hand - much much better than Meadowhell.

I love the Metro, but I went with the Girlfriend in Feburary and they're doing a fair amount of work at the moment, and most of the floors were missing, and a lot of building work was going on. Most of the shops had moved around since I last went and I got so fed up we went home after an hour and a mcDonalds!

I've had some fantastic nights in newcastle. I've got a few friends at Uni up there, I'll have to go visit for the nightlife, although they're into the cheap student nights, and I prefer the posher places, mainly because they're the sort of bars I've always worked in. Like I said, I was quite heavily involved in Hide before I moved down to Sheffield, just not in the Newcastle Hide, except for staff nights out!

We had a very drunken staff night out one time, we end up in a bar called 'Cuba Cuba' which has since been renamed (the name escapes me) but it's still the same place. 30 of us walked in, and we'd decided this would be our last call, we were the only white people in the club, and decided to stick around in one large group since we were getting some rather nasty stares! It was full of 40 year old black guys, and not one of them came over to speak to any of us, although they did eye up a lot of the girls we were with!

I spent most of the night propping up the bar with the head chef, and he kept buying me double whiskeys all night, I drank about 30 shots of cheap whiskey, before passing out on the bus on the way home and allegedly spewing. There's another part of the story that I can't tell without fear of tarnishing the good reputation of Hide!

Aim for The Quays or Bigg Market, thats where most of the action seems to be

Big market is good for the hen nights, Riverside is good for clubs. Old farts like me like the cheese bar if it is still there. One half a real ale pub the other half a cheese shop.
Get over to whitley bay for some fresh air and some of the best chips I've ever had to help the recovery

The Big market is full of underage/drunkards and nutters.

Head for the Quayside and BaHa was still there when I last went....

Places to avoid:

Whitley Bay - full of chavs. :gag:
The Boat - hot & sweaty & no headroom, the revolving dancefloor is about the size of a 10p peice and you get stuck to it! very over-rated.

The town centre is ok but if you need a taxi to get home - good luck.

I used to DJ i Baja when it was live on Metro. If you're going on a hen do, you'll be in good company. It's full of p*ssed-up kn*bheads. Personally I hate the place, but it's great for stag/han parties.

Be prepared for a bit of queuing though.

And if you're anything like most of the other people heading there, why don't you pick on the homeless people on the swing bridge? Everybody else does, because it makes them look dead hard and clever in front of their (equally tw*tted) mates.

Sorry mate... Wasn't implying you are one of the aforementioned drunken louts. Was quite simply giving you the SP on going out in Newcastle, which is what you asked.

After DJing in and around Newcastle for four years I find it to be a great night out if what you want is Falaraki with rain, because that's what it's like. If you've ever been anywhere where you can sense there's going to be trouble, it's Newcastle. Once again, not being a snob or anything. It's just the truth.

I have relatives in Newcastle, and was treated to a night 'on the toon' there last year. This was against the advice of my wife, who feared that I would be accosted by cutpurses, beaten senseless or gang-buggered. I returned home alive and unmolested. Perhaps, at 43, I am too old to fully appreciate the subtleties and rules of the vibrant, throbbing Newcastle youth culture. However, I did not enjoy the spectacle of mixed-sex, open urinating which appeared to be put on for our entertainment in the Bigg Market. Is this sponsored by the council? Or are the 'artists' self- appointed?
