View Full Version : Trains from Woodhouse station RPG 25-09-2003, 15:30 Does anyone know if trains still run from woodhouse station? i cant seem to find any information on it at all, other than a rail route on the mapbook! cheers, RPG Mo 25-09-2003, 15:40 Originally posted by RPG Does anyone know if trains still run from woodhouse station? i cant seem to find any information on it at all, other than a rail route on the mapbook! cheers, RPG I am almost certain that they do as it is the main line to Lincolnshire......you can still get a train to Cleggy from Woodhouse. It's not all that long ago that they spent a fortune on the station revamping it only to have it trashed overnight literally!!! Why do you ask RPG? RPG 25-09-2003, 15:43 i was just wondering if they have trains to derby thats all, (where i can connect to uttoxeter) in an attempt to get to alton towers Mo 25-09-2003, 15:48 Derby that'll be the London line won't it? I would have thought it quite a torturous journey by train. Why don't you go by coach as there always seem to be plenty of trips advertised for AT? RPG 25-09-2003, 15:50 ive done it before, its quite fun :) i started off in nottingham tho, as thats on the direct line to derby see, starting in sheffield would mean changing onto "the robin hood line" or whatever its called (nottingham-uttoxeter) if i went by coach id be tied to when they arrived and left (they arrive late, and leave early :/ ) RPG 25-09-2003, 18:04 hmm, thats interesting! Shireoaks/Worksop/Retford/Gainsborough what about mansfield? that'd get me to nottingham :) Andy 25-09-2003, 18:50 RPG, you can get direct and fast(ish) trains to Nottingham and Derby from Sheffield Midland Station... RPG 25-09-2003, 18:55 oh i know ;) "wooduss" is a bit closer to me thats all Andy 25-09-2003, 19:01 wooduss might be nearer, but you'll probably find it's only served by Arriva Trains using trains which were rejected by Afganistan State Railways* for being too uncomfortable. It'll probably still work out being quicker for you going via Sheffield. *yes, Afganistan does have a railway...only a little one though. RPG 25-09-2003, 19:05 arriva!! nooooo, forget that idea then  central are the best IMO :) Andy 25-09-2003, 19:09 for train travel, you can't beat the GNER journey to Edinburgh, but that's in the wrong direction to where you want to go... Central Trains are worse than useless too - Every time I catch one of their trains I seem to be 10 minutes or more late. halevan 25-09-2003, 19:33 Originally posted by RPG Does anyone know if trains still run from woodhouse station? i cant seem to find any information on it at all, other than a rail route on the mapbook! cheers, RPG Phone the train station !!! Andy 25-09-2003, 19:59 You can't phone the station any more. You have to speak to a call centre, who know less about the railways than, erm, someone who knows very little indeed. alchresearch 25-09-2003, 20:01 It's nice to see the station regenerated but I still think it needs work. MARTINO 1 25-09-2003, 20:12 WOODHOUSE TO UTTOXETER CHANGE AT SHEFFIELD AND DERBY. Lickszz 28-09-2003, 21:59 Originally posted by RPG i was just wondering if they have trains to derby thats all, (where i can connect to uttoxeter) in an attempt to get to alton towers Yes, As someone said I am sure it's Derby. I changed at Derby when I was going to Crewe and think I remember passing Uttoxeter race course. Andy C 28-09-2003, 22:05 Woodhouse is on the Sheffield-Worksop-Lincoln line, which is operated by Arriva Trains Northern on behalf of the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. Many services continue through beyond Sheffield to Huddersfield via Meadowhall and Barnsley. www.arrivatrainsnorthern.co.uk www.sypte.co.uk Central Trains do an inclusive package from Sheffield to Alton Towers. You use Midland Mainline or Virgin down to Derby to connect into their service to Uttoxeter (Nottingham-Derby-Crewe route) where you get a scheduled bus to Alton Towers. Price includes trains, bus and admission. Details www.centraltrains.co.uk An easier journey is on the Midland Mainline trip, however you need to do kind of a fiddle with the tickets, as the package is only available from London and Leicester. This involves train to Derby, where a coach transfer to the park is included, along with the admission. You would have to buy seperate ticket from Sheffield to Derby. Only runs Monday, Friday and Saturday. Details and online bookings www.midlandmainline.com/at By the way the Robin Hood line is the Worksop-Mansfield-Nottingham route so is irrelevant to this particular query. Details www.centraltrains.co.uk ive done that one already :) well reccomended :D but i had to goto nottingham by car to save the extra tenner it'd cost me for a sheffield-nottingham ticket Originally posted by Andy C By the way the Robin Hood line is the Worksop-Mansfield-Nottingham route so is irrelevant to this particular query. [/B] isnt it? my mistake :( mh01 07-09-2009, 17:22 i wonder if she ever did get to alton towers:huh::hihi: Andy C 07-09-2009, 17:41 Talk about bringing a thread back from the grave.... Trains do still serve Woodhouse (Sheffield-Lincoln service) and are now operated by Northern Rail. Alton Towers packages are no longer available, however during the season Alton Towers now run a daily bus service from Derby station and Uttoxeter station to the park. If you want information on train times or fares for any UK operator visit www.nationalrail.co.uk. Yes, they do run; generally all the trains on the Adwick-Sheffield-Lincoln dogleg will stop there. I occasionally commuted to work along the route, from the city centre to Woodhouse, also on another occasion on the first train in the morning to Kiveton Bridge to start a 6am shift at a place in Kiveton, so they generally run from early to late, if not really frequent...:hihi: mh01 07-09-2009, 21:05 Yes, they do run; generally all the trains on the Adwick-Sheffield-Lincoln dogleg will stop there.
