a white male in his 20s has been arrested in town outside market, my mum was there and saw the whole. there was 8 police officers holding him down as he continued shouting verbel abuse etc etc

From time to time you do get a few arrests/incidents around the market area. A while ago my Mother had her purse taken from her bag in the market but was looked after by the security team there. We were later to hear about the 'sorts' who frequent a nearby pub and have a team of people going about bag-snatching, shop-lifting and passing stuff on to others etc. I have since, seen some dodgy goings on around this pub and am sure lots of other people are well aware of it too.

The headline of this thread made me chuckle.....,

Its almost as bad as.... "man lost car keys on charter row. It has been reported that a male of white ethnic orientation was seen in the mid afternoon hours looking for something in his jacket and jeans pockets. Local police where called to the scene promptly, accompanied by overhead observatory support by the South Yorkshire Police helicopter. Upon further questioning, it became apparent that the 27 year old male, known as Bigflesh, was looking for a set of lost car keys".

yes samuel holberry was a distant uncle of mine ( several greats in the chain ) my father was joseph samuel holberry
a sheffield pub landord for many years sam was a chartist fighting for workers rights and planned an armed take over of sheffield town hall ( which was then the old court building near the market) but a rotherham pub landlord informed on them and they were all arrested. sam was given 4 years for his part but died on the treadmill at northallerton jail he was given a martyrs funeral which reportedly 50, 000 people attended

Worked with a relation of yours in Wakefield, a guy called Alan Holberry. He told me about Samuel. His gravestone is in the Cemetry on Cemetry Road.

I dont know of an allan holberry but I am currently trying to trace the tree back with moderate success as I know very little of my own grand parents. I have only one brother , david
I now know the familly came originally from the nottinghamshire area. my father was born in barnsley.

I have visited the grave of sam holberry a few times, sometime after he died his wife mary remarried to the landord of the seven stars pup which was situated on trippet lane she bore him five children, but on her death at her behest she was buried with sam.
