most of the jobs websites now have suitable guides for writing CVs, but the first suggestion I'd make is that you always write your CV for the specific job you're applying for, so you make sure you address every item they ask for in the job ad ;)

Try www.reed.co.uk

If job app's ask for examples make sure the ones you detail the outcome, as well as what you did, how you did it, any obstacles you overcame and other options you considered.

There's a place on Burton St, called 'Job Net' They do them for you.

Try and make it easy to read. Use bullet points rather than full paragraphs.

It would help to know whether you're just out of school because it's important to ensure that you make yourself stand out. This can be quite hard for someone who's a school leaver. It's important in this case to find interesting things that can be made to be relevant to the workplace, eg enthusiastic football player - can translate to mean you're a good team player. Love painting - can mean able to pay attention to detail & so on.

Keep it short & simple. Dont write your whole life history. Make sure your address and contact details are clear and visible - sounds obvious but it's surprising how many people bury that sort of information at the end of 3 pages.

Also make sure that whatever you say is true especially about stuff like qualifications, health & that sort of stuff because it could come home to roost. It's a very good idea to write it yourself because then you'll know what's on it - I heard of a case where someone went to an interview and wasnt able to answer any of the questions about what was on their CV - went down like a lead balloon.
