Where? CJB444 23-03-2005, 09:53 If you are speaking of the colliery at Orgreave: The main operations are opencast workings and "washing processes". The river was rerouted to allow opencast excavation of remaining seams since coking finished in 1990. The vast workings albeit visible from the parkway are quite immense when you go inside with the tonka trucks! Due to relatively inefficient practices in the past, much of the spoil remaining was rich in coal residue, and so modern washing practices allow much of the remaiing coal to be removed from the spoil. Restoration is now the main focus, with "overburdens" of 1000s of tonnes of spoil being shifted every few years to stabilise former worked areas to allow redevelopment/restoration without fear of subsidence. If more info is needed perhaps type "Orgreave Colliery Restoration Plan" into google. Otherwise more documentation will be avaliable from HMSO, the EA, UK Coal etc etc. alchresearch 23-03-2005, 17:36 At the far side they're starting on building the new town "Waverley": http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/graphics/YourHome/Planning/Forward+Planning/Waverley+Development+Site/_WaverleyDevelopmentSite.htm Hels 23-03-2005, 18:16 Thanks for the link. I saw a bus today with 'Waverley via Darnall' on the front - didn't think Waverley existed yet! alchresearch 23-03-2005, 18:54 It may be going to the Morrisons over there, but I thought that would be under Catcliffe.
