Straight from a press release, thought I'd share it:
Sheffield United Football Club (SUFC) has become the first Championship club and first club in South Yorkshire to obtain the preliminary level of the Racial Equality Standard (RES).
The RES for professional football clubs, which has been developed by Kick It Out with the support of the Premier League, sets out a series of graded measures for professional clubs in tackling issues such as racism and equal opportunities.
The measures encourage clubs to deliver a range of objectives that ensure equality policies are implemented in all areas of their operation, from stewarding to the recruitment of young players.
Clubs are judged on three activity areas - stadium and outreach, policy and planning, and administration and management, which need to be met by a number of objectives.
The RES was awarded to the club before the home match against Leicester City (April 5), with Blades hero Brian Deane, Sheffield Central MP Richard Caborn and SUFC chief executive Jason Rockett attending the presentation.
Jason Rockett, SUFC chief executive, said: “The club is very proud of achieving the preliminary level of the RES, which is an acknowledgment of our ongoing commitment to tackling racism in football.
“Having achieved the first level of the Standard, we will continue to develop long-term partnerships, promote social inclusion and encourage tolerance and understanding of all sections of the community.”
The club has worked with Football United, Racism Divides and Howard Holmes in particular to achieve the Standard.
