View Full Version : Refs need sorting out, seriously.
Kirsty.SUFC 15-04-2008, 15:22 Does anyone else think that all the ref's in any football league are biased?
They always take sides & give unfair desicions... they all need sorting out... they're all getting paid for been unfair!
Whatif wewin 15-04-2008, 17:19 Not sure if they are biased or just hopeless.
Premier league officials earn a minimum of £30, 000 per annum which is a decent wage for making so many errors. Decisions matter so much to the teams, but sometimes I get the impression that refs just want to be controversial and be the centre of attention.

Most Premier league footballers earn that much a week, and make a damn sight more errors than any referee ever could. Have you tried counting exactly how many tackles don't get made, how many passes don't reach their target, how many shots do not score?

I don't see your point.
Footballers are competing, they are in a competition against the other team. The biggest part of any football game is to force the opposition into making mistakes.
It is the refs job to allow a game to run smoothly by applying the rules of the game fairly without bias. The best football matches are when the ref is not even noticed. Unfortunately too many refs want to be noticed these days
NPressureCS 15-04-2008, 17:50 Im sure refs would be far better at what they do if they werent put under so much pressure from the abuse they receive from the players.
Its disgusting how players swear and push the refs around, for me they dont have enough power on the pitch. So many lessons could be learned from rugby where the players cant even approach the ref. Its not very often they make mistakes like the football refs do!
I really think it starts with the players, there is a much wider picture than just blaming the refs.
Kirsty.SUFC 15-04-2008, 17:52 Yeah i agree with the pressure bit, but i think when they have a go at them like swearing at that, is when they get all mardy when they don't get the decision they wanted.

Let me make it again, then. Referees make vastly fewer mistakes than most footballers.

The ref has to allow a game to be played within the rules, when a ref makes a mistake it can be important to the result. Players will make mistakes, that is just part of the game.
Footballers are running about pitting their team; and individual skills against those of the opposing team, they are bound to make mistakes, it is a physical game.
May be it is your point to refer to the obvious, that refs make vastly fewer mistakes than the players? KirstySUFC is saying that she/he believes that refs could be biased, I was hinting that they are just not very good at being fair. Because certain high profile players such as Gerrard put pressure on them to give more decisions their way.
We know that top players get top money, it might be time for refs to be allowed to get performance related pay.
The performance being judged by the refs assessor report, maybe then refs cuold atune their own performance to be more evenly balanced, and not lean towards the top stars.

Thats very true and I have said it before on here before - they are not bothered who wins either....
Kirsty.SUFC 16-04-2008, 15:14 Yeah i do agree with the majority who have commented in loads of ways..
I was just trying to get a convo going on something as well lol (:
Well to be honest... everybody has their own opinion on it, & nobody's right or wrong... it's just your own personal opinion.
sharpend 16-04-2008, 16:06 it's just your own personal opinion.
And that just about sums up referees to a T...:D
Old_Bloke 16-04-2008, 16:13 Most of the 'wrong decisions' come as a direct result of players cheating. If players didn't dive, claim every throw-in/corner is theirs even when they know they kicked the ball out, or try to handle the ball at every opportunity, the refs would have a much simpler job and there would be very few wrong decisions.
In my opinion the FA should use video evidence to ban the cheats for a few matches each time. Before you know it, clubs would struggle to put out 11 players and would order their players to stop playing dirty. Problem solved.

I'm continually amazed at footballers who appeal for throw-ins when it is obvious to a blind hedgehog in a bag that they kicked the ball out. The arm goes up, "OUR BALL" screams the player, who then looks at the ref with daggers when the decision goes against him.
