I've been building mail servers a lot recently, all qmail based, & have been asked by a few customers about possibly dumping MS Exchange for something open source.
I'm a bit stuck finding the easiest way to sync calendar & contact information, & it has to be able to be tied into Horde.
Kolab seems to go with Postfix & Cyrus-IMAP, so that's a non-starter as it's Qmail & Courier-IMAP, I've seen LDAP/OpenLDAP mentioned but don't know where to start. Doesn't need to work with Outlook in any way as they're dumping it.
Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone done anything similar?
Real niche-market geek question this :hihi:

Domino Server for lotus notes?
Domino Server for lotus notes?
Funny. But Domino Server's still going (http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/products/domino/)!
Bit pricey though, in that there is a price other than the endless hours of tinkering getting it working right.

Which feature of M$ Exchange are you wanting to replace?
You mention LDAP are you wanting to use this for authentication?
Are you looking to use a desktop client or go browser based?

The shared gubbins, calendar & contacts.

Not sure, partly the reason I'm asking if anyone's done it before. I've seen LDAP/OpenLDAP mentioned a bit but apart from that it's confusing me. If you've not used Horde before it's a groupware webmail (& everything else) client that seems to be able to tie into whatever back-end you want to use for every (webmail/calendar/contacts/notes/shared files) module. By default all users' personal stuff gets saved in MySQL, I'd basically like to be able to use something for the contacts &/or calendar modules' back-end so that people can get a plugin for Thunderbird (Outlook optional) which will show their webmail-based calendar/contacts through their mail program & vice versa.
I'd like to keep it as IMAP authentication &/or tied into the qmail/vpopmail users database to keep it simple if possible but don't know enough about any of the options (or implementing them) to even know if this is how it works.
Have you tried looking at Scalix?

Hadn't seen it thanks, but not really what I'm looking for. Looks like it's everything in one, I've got the mail server sorted & am using Horde, just need to know about bits I've asked about.
