View Full Version : 5-A-Side Players wanted for new team
MrMotorcycle 15-04-2008, 11:08 Hey up, I'm planning on putting together a 5-a-side team to play at Goals (located at bottom of Granville Road, at back of All Saints school).
We'll play once a week (exact night to be confirmed depending on which league we go for). There might be a training session every now and then, depending on interest.
The aim is to get / keep fit and have a laugh. Over 18's only. No chavs. League games cost aprox £5.50 each.
Drop us a PM or post up if you're interested.
Cheers
ScottR18 20-04-2008, 11:21 Hiya yeah im interested if you can give me more information, and were to go and what time and that and i'll be there mate..
Thanks
MrMotorcycle 22-04-2008, 12:06 Hi, had a few PM's from interested folk, but it's probably easier if you post up here to express your interest. At the moment we'll probably be playing on either a Tuesday or Thursday evening at Goals (bottom of Granville Road). Not sure which night yet - depends what league they start us off in.
We ideally need a core team of regular players who are able to make it to (most) matches. We'll probably have a couple of training sessions to get fit and gel, then we'll look to have a laugh whilst winning the league!
paul28uk 22-04-2008, 19:41 I'm interested, Thursdays are my only option though i'm afraid due to Football on Tues & Wed already.
Keep me posted if you want.
ScottR18 23-04-2008, 11:36 Im avaible all weekdays apart from wednesday so this would suit!
MrMotorcycle 28-04-2008, 14:38 Shall we'll wait until we've got about 10 players interested? They we can have a nice little training session / match / kick-about to get us going?
Hi Mate
I play down at goals at the moment your best bet is to get 8 players anymore will be to many and you will hardly get anytime on the pitch. Anyway good luck hope you get a team together.
Agent Orange 29-04-2008, 07:41 Hi,
Hate to crash your thread, but would your team and/or any players be interested in playing in a 5 a side charity event. I am looking for teams and individuals to make this event a success. All proceeds from the event go to Meningitis Trust and Cancer Research. More information here: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=339994
Cheers,
AO
I would be interested mate. Currently play Saturdays (11 aside) and Monday and Tuesday 6-aside at goodwin.
Cheers.
Ive just moved here (from Peteroborugh), and need to fight my belly off!
I live just off Norfolk Park, which is right next to Goals isnt it? and can play any night.
So let me know
Cheers
MrMotorcycle 01-05-2008, 09:04 Alright, looks like we've got a few players interested now. 8 players is ideal, but obviously, if a few can't make it one week, it's important to still be able to scrape a team together.
Anyways, shall we arrnage a training session then - a get together / kick about?
When's best? Maybe one Saturday morning / afternoon... open to suggestions...
I often work sat mornings, a trainign session any night of the week is better for me.
cheers
MrMotorcycle 01-05-2008, 09:09 yeah, or an evening session... we'll just go with whatever's best for everyone... Please post up if you're interested / available.
Rossaldinho 04-05-2008, 15:10 Hi,
Don't know what your numbers are like now but i'd be interested and would be available every week. Any plans for a meet-tp/training session yet?
Cheers
MrMotorcycle 07-05-2008, 10:11 Well, lets make a provisional date for a training session then shall we?...
How does Tuesday 13th May sound? 6.30pm start?
Location? What about Hollinsend Park? There's permanent 5-a-side goals there and it's free.
For non-drivers, it's easily accessible via SuperTram (just get off at Hollinsend tram stop).
Location details:
Hollinsend Park Bowling Club
Rear of Gleadless Church
Ridgeway Road
Sheffield
S12 2TW
see for info: http://www.britinfo.net/T/1004852.htm
Typically next tuesday I cannot do.
Could you do it on Wednesday at 6.30, same place , same venue?
MrMotorcycle 07-05-2008, 10:19 Tuesday, or Wednesday, or Thursday... whichever is most suitable.
Please post up and let us know your preference
Wednesday or thursday at 6.30 are fine for me.
Rossaldinho 07-05-2008, 11:05 yeah i can do wed or thurs next week.
MrMotorcycle 08-05-2008, 08:49 Shall we go for Weds 6.30pm, then?
Weds 6.30 good for me. Count me in
Hi - not sure if your team is full or not, but i would be interested in playing with you if you have space?? Please let me know!
Thanks
Tom
MrMotorcycle 08-05-2008, 12:25 Yes, sure. There's only about 3 of us so far. We need about 7 or 8 reliable players for the team.
paul28uk 08-05-2008, 13:02 I'm up for the session too, although could be 10 mins late as i'm football at goodwin 5-6pm
Thanks for getting back to me - sounds great. It does seem as if you have gone for a training session tonight?? I will def be able to come next week though, I have been looking to join a team for a while now. Cya
I know someone who might be up for it. I'll ask and get back to you.
MrMotorcycle 13-05-2008, 07:39 Hi folks, it's now Tuesday... the first session is provisionally arranged for 6.30pm tomorrow (Wednesday 14th) at Hollinsend Park.
So far there seems to be 4 or 5 of us up for it. Would it make sense to postpone the first session until we have between 8 and 10 players interested in attending?
Yes, there isnt any point, if there is only about four of us. But I am definitely interested when you can get enough.
The site doesnt always notify you that people have posted on the thread you areon, so some may have missed it.
It may be best to get email addresses, and then you can email direct when you have enough.
Mine is greenwoodross@hotmail.com

MrMotorcycle 13-05-2008, 20:11 We'll hold off then. Maybe see what kind of interest there is over the next couple of weeks. We'll try and re-arrange for Weds 28th May, depending on increased interest.
Yes, i will play on the 28/5.
:)
Zomoniac 14-05-2008, 11:45 Is this a league thing or just a friendly kickabout? I'd be up for 28/5 if it's just a casual thing with no fitness and/or skill requirements.
tomhutton 16-05-2008, 09:00 Let me know if you need any more players, I'm free any week night but Fridays.
im interested, just PM me the details
MrMotorcycle 19-05-2008, 06:50 NEW SESSION: so, shall we aim for a training sesh / kick about at 7pm, Wednesday 28th May?
Anyone interested, please post up here so we can get an idea of numbers, same location as already detailed earlier (Hollinsend Park).
And to answer an earlier question...
yes, this will the the first training sesh for our new 5-a-side team. We will play in a league one evening a week at 'Goals' (bottom of Granville Road).
tomhutton 19-05-2008, 08:30 I'm up for the 28th, see you there.
shiatsuhead 19-05-2008, 09:23 hello
i would be well up for this on 28th may too.
Paul
Yes, I will be there on the 28/5.
i should be able to make it
Agent Orange 20-05-2008, 18:36 You guys wanna try out your new team on Saturday? There is my charity event at Hillsborough and we could with another reliable team on board. PM me or leave me note on my thread if interested.
Ta,
AO.

MrMotorcycle 27-05-2008, 21:10 Looks like we're on for tomorrow night (7pm, weds 28th) at Hollinsend Park.
There are permanent 5-a-side goal posts. Please look out for the fluro bib...

Mr Motorcycle
(player-manager)
Hi
I dont know sheffield very well, I assume its the park off Hollins End road, near the sports ground?
Do you have a mobile number in case I/we cant find it?
tomhutton 28-05-2008, 09:07 See everyone at 7pm then, make sure someone brings a ball, I can't find mine.
MrMotorcycle 28-05-2008, 16:53 Training tonight (Weds 28th May) is CANCELLED.
Due to extreme rain and a few players pulling out last minute, (plus, the pitch will be very waterlogged), we'll cancel tonight's session.
Weather permitting, we'll try and get another date sorted soon.
Please post up with future availability.
Thanks
tomhutton 28-05-2008, 19:03 Abit late cancellation, I've just had a great game of headers and volleys with a couple of kids. A bit of rain has never hurt anyone. I've got Mr Motorcycles number now, we should try and get everyone elses so we can confirms numbers and date. I suggest next Weds at 7pm again, just go ahead with it and see how many people turn up or we will never get a team off the ground people will lose interest. Then when enough committed people turn up we can look to enter a league.
Yes, i had my shin pads on when i saw the message! Ended up watching england and drinking 4 lagers, not quite the mid week healthy activity I was hoping for!
Wednesday next week at 7pm is fine for me, any weather permitting!
cheers

MrMotorcycle 30-05-2008, 10:43 Ha ha ha... yeah, I watched the England game too. It really rained heavy this end of town so Hollinsend pitch would have been practually underwater. It needs days to drain even after a light sprinkle.
Yes, Weds 4th June sounds good. Same place, same time (7pm)... freak weather conditions permitting (LOL).
Cool, 7 pm definitely this week, as I have bought some new football socks!
Im definitely ready to join in next wed at 7 pm. cheers
tomhutton 04-06-2008, 07:43 Training confirmed for tonight anyone welcome details in previous theads.
Cool, I will be there, just to confirm its on grass isnt it?
tomhutton 04-06-2008, 12:51 Yes it's on grass
MrMotorcycle 04-06-2008, 14:30 doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it tonght. Gutted. Ah, well. Next week, if you're all up for another one. Have fun, anyway
MrMotorcycle 04-06-2008, 15:56 and now I can make it. See you all at 7pm
MaliceP79 04-06-2008, 20:04 hey you still looking for anymore players?
MrMotorcycle 05-06-2008, 09:01 Yeah, we're still looking. We had our first training session (a kick about) last night and it was great. Really top group of lads so far. We'll be getting together again next Weds, then we'll be starting the league matches. Anyone interested, please let us know. We need about 4 more players who are regularly available for games.

What Night you playing down at goals?
Just to confirm I will be there again tomo night.
Cheers
Ross
tomhutton 10-06-2008, 11:45 I'll be there to.
Zomoniac 10-06-2008, 14:07 What's the standard, both ability and fitness? I'm definitely up for it if you're short of players, but don't want to be holding everyone back!
We are just having a kickabout in the goals tomo at 7pm at Hollinsend Park. ITs just behind hollinsend Tram stop, walk into the park, and thru past the Bowling Green, there are a few permanent goals.
Fitness and skill are average, so you can see how you get on.
cheers
Zomoniac 11-06-2008, 07:28 So is it an anyone welcome session then? If so I'm definitely in. I'm a reasonably competent player, have a good left foot and can pass well, but I'm not really a master of fancy stuff or running past people. Think of me as a woefully rubbish left-footed version of Beckham :) Also my fitness is currently awful, which is a big part of the reason why I'm looking to play again.
How serious is everything? From the post above this one I'd have assumed it was just a casual kick-about in the park, but a few posts earlier there was talk of football socks and shinpads, so is it a get fully kitted out with boots and everything affair?
And as someone who doesn't live near a tramstop and has a car, how do I get there?
At this point, just a kick about, so any attire is fine, just trying to get a few players together and get kicking a ball again.
In your car, drive to Manor Top, you will probably be coming along City Road, and then follow the tram line (you may have to do a loop round Netto), when you get to Hollinhead tram stop, turn left, park your car, park is behind the church, walk passed the bowling greens!
Zomoniac 11-06-2008, 17:13 Is anyone going to be wearing anything distinguishing? To make sure I approach the right guys!
Black T shirt, black shorts, no hair!
MrMotorcycle 12-06-2008, 13:56 Hi chaps, sorry I didn't manage to make it last night :-(
Was doing some DIY (putting up some fencing in the garden) which took longer that expected (doesn't it always!) :-)
Anyways, hope it was a good sesh. I should be okay for next week.
Hi
Very bold not turning up! it was like a mini gangsters party down their last wed!
Couple of us cant make it this wed, so would be short staffed this week!
But should be ok for next week!
cheers
Ross

Zomoniac 20-06-2008, 17:46 I dont get it, who is actually playing then( sorry i havent read all of this)
