View Full Version : What's the best hoover for dog hairs loopylass 14-04-2008, 17:05 hoover for picking up tonnes of fur :help: natalie22 14-04-2008, 17:07 I've got a Hoover ALYX, this works great because there's a turbo attatchment which sucks up dog hairs like there's no tomorow. I think it cost about £50 from Currys. pinklady 14-04-2008, 17:16 i gave up and had the whole house laminated ........ it was either that or immac the dog loopylass 14-04-2008, 22:07 i gave up and had the whole house laminated ........ it was either that or immac the dog Lol now that's an idea... Only joking :hihi: shihtzumad 14-04-2008, 22:36 I would say a Dyson, they have brilliant suction. Strix 15-04-2008, 23:51 The Sebo it's electronic height adjustment makes quick work of the most clingy dog hair, and if you have a long haired breed you'll appreciate the button that releases the roller brush for cleaning ... and can somebody merge this thread with the collection of others on this topic? ;) katkin 16-04-2008, 02:08 Still want to try the SEBO someday but for now in terms of suction and loved my MIELE but they dont do an upright (better for my bad back) so it's the DYSON - but they're designed by blokes who never hoovered a floor in their lives and if I'd invented the DYSON I'd have made it more user-friendly. Ive had a DC05 (mini one) and now have a DC18 (slimline upright which is brill except for the stupid extending wand -great fro cleaning up stairs but useless for cleaning cushions unless you have 4 foot long arms or get someone else to hold the cushion for you) and Ive got the mini hand-held Dyson animal - pricey but a fab cordless alternative when you're doing a quick dash-round and still great suction- none of the other myriad of hand helds Ive had even remotely compare with it. Strix 16-04-2008, 03:14 ah - now - bad backs.... ... the Sebo upright was the choice of many bad-back sufferers I served in John Lewis - presumably because it doesn't dig it's bristles into the carpet and propels itself along the carpet go and ask if you can test drive one in the shop - Peterborough certainly used to allow customers to do this Meile are known to be the best cylinder cleaners - and if you have an electrobrush, even more so. The Sebo cylinder was a close second though Sebo now do a kind of hybrid cleaner I'd like to have a closer look at www.sebo.co.uk *Wallace* 16-04-2008, 08:02 You need one with a rotating brush bar really for picking up fur,we got a Vax 1850w with turbo brush for stairs,on the whole it's a very good machine cost about £70 from Comet. estweyn 16-04-2008, 09:08 The only vacuum I have had thats lasted longer than 6 months at a time is a dyson, as long as you keep it clean and do the filters they seem to go on and on and have great suction. Dont even think of any normal type vac unless you have money to burn. I also have mostly wood and tiles now, just a carpet in living room and on the stairs, its so much easier and NO SMELL, cos lets be honest our little dears can make carpets stink! teeny 16-04-2008, 09:54 I have had a dyson animal for 6 years, its ace and i wouldn't be without it! I have alot of small furries in my house, 2 dogs , 2 cats, 2 rabbits, and visiting animals. It does a great job. I have an old kirby upstairs thats good but i prefer the dyson as its lighter! and easier to get into clean it up afterwards. I am going to replace my dyson soon with the newer version as its a must for me. xircon 16-04-2008, 10:00 We got an Electrolux which was absolutely rubbish, the intake into the drum is next to the filter and Mollys hair just clogs it up after a couple of minutes. You should have seen the mess I made trying to clean up a cat litter spill (whole tray - molly strikes again!) it filled the whole room with cat litter dust in under a minute! I went down the pub and waited till my other half came home. So moral of the story - dont buy electrolux. teeny 16-04-2008, 10:08 I have to say the dyson sucks up cat litter too !!! very well I do use bleach in it after to clean the collection box out after or usually try to leave it for Dave to do xircon 16-04-2008, 10:23 Our Dyson died, they are just too expensive to replace ~£150 seems to be the cheapest. the DC07 is £200 at TJ Hughes. ASPGuru 16-04-2008, 10:25 My vote is for the Dyson range too, but ignore the 'never loses suction' advertising - they do, albeit much more slowly than a conventional cleaner. The good news is that they can easily be stripped down and cleaned. I do mine once, maybe twice a year. Strix 16-04-2008, 10:34 the Sebo has an industrial guarantee :) five year parts, one year labour for domestic use, but I think mine must be maybe 12 years old now anything that needs replacing on it can usually be sent out in the post - as it all comes apart so easily - mostly with the push of a button it has s-class filtration, doesn't lose suction, and you can choose to have a charcoal filter if you have anything particularly niffy you're cleaning up after - such as a bloodhound katkin 16-04-2008, 11:20 my lovely miele lasted 15-18 years ( I forget exactly). Will def investigate the SEBO when I'm ready to spend yet more dosh on a hoover- I go through them like crazy and fall out with the ones I own, even the dysons willman 16-04-2008, 14:08 IN no particular order Vorwerk - the dogs. Lindhaus - currently 4 years old - sucks the hairs off the digs. Kirby all 3 are dual motors btw. Strix 16-04-2008, 14:19 I've heard good reports on the Vorwerk too - though I've never seen one willman 16-04-2008, 14:22 I had a home demo 10 years ago via a dog groomer - the machine was superb but @ £500 a little too expensive to replace. I bought the Lindhaus from Killi's it's heavier but excellent especially when we had 5 dogs. MARY POPPINS 16-04-2008, 14:55 My only fault with the Dyson is they are really heavy. Lotti 16-04-2008, 14:56 Aw hun... There are dog hairs and there are dalmatian hairs! Just take the carpet up and have bare floorboards! Seriously though, we have a dyson animal (which most dog owners love) - it wasn't my choice my mum picked it and I still have to hoover once or twice a day minimum in order to keep ahead of the dally hairs! katkin 16-04-2008, 15:07 My only fault with the Dyson is they are really heavy. That's why I went for the slimline DC18 (plus I needed one that didnt take up a lot of space under our stairs) but the extending hose is useless because you cannot attach a decent flexible brush to it to tackle soft furnishings (serious design flaw IMO). They do ones now with a drop down handle and bettre design features but I'm not forking out £300 for another. Weve got sealed wooden floors, rugs that are easy to clean and as few soft furnishings as we can get away with- result- house doesnt reek of animals anymore and it is quicker to clean - mind you, like the dallies, dobes are capable of leaving lots of short black sharp hairs all over the place, especially in the cracks between the sofa cushions... Strix 16-04-2008, 15:09 the sebo's have a flip catch which enables you to remove the metal part of the handle (and the cable) they have a multitude of accessories you can purchase separately. There are at least 3 different types of brush suitable for upholstery katkin 16-04-2008, 15:15 you're almost selling it to me Strix... Strix 16-04-2008, 15:37 almost? I must be losing my touch ;) honestjoe69 16-04-2008, 16:31 If money was no object, which Dyson Animal hoover would you buy as there seem to be 4 different models?? katkin 16-04-2008, 16:43 I've got the handheld for quick fixes, but...would have to be the one that takes up minimal space - one of the stowaway models - although for health reasons, I'd get on better with an upright - it just looks so BIG and cumbersome Strix 16-04-2008, 16:46 if money were no object I'd buy the company and burn it to the ground :D I have a big problem with James Dyson's ethics - and hoiking his manufacturing overseas after peddling his products under the 'buy British' flag blue-kat 16-04-2008, 17:43 any recommended vacuums for getting dog and cat hairs off the stairs? also for getting dog hair off car seats? I've got a lightweight slimline upright dyson, which is great at de-dog-hairing the carpets, but difficult on the stairs, the 'wand' is too long and cumbersome. I was considering getting a handheld dyson, but on seeing the price it's a good chunk of a sebo or miele cylinder. katkin 16-04-2008, 20:20 Really did love my miele. The handheld dyson is obscenely expensive but I was gullible and bought one anyway- if I wanted the additional tools for mine it's another £30-40! It's only 6 mins charge but actually that's more than enough unless you suddenly decide to start cleaning the house. Charge takes 3 hrs blue-kat- sounds like you've got the DC18 dyson same as me- It just about reaches to the top of our stairs (narrow steep terrace house staircase) and that wand is a menace. Got on much better with the miele when I had it. ...would like to see the SEBO Felix Pet upright in action though Strix 23-04-2008, 07:50 any recommended vacuums for getting dog and cat hairs off the stairs? also for getting dog hair off car seats? I've got a lightweight slimline upright dyson, which is great at de-dog-hairing the carpets, but difficult on the stairs, the 'wand' is too long and cumbersome. I was considering getting a handheld dyson, but on seeing the price it's a good chunk of a sebo or miele cylinder. my mum has a dirt devil hand held thing that has a rotating brush which makes light work of both stairs and car you can also get additional attachments for a sebo to do the job, although the upholstery brush does a great job - as it actually has bristles, unlike any other manufacturer's Lotti 23-04-2008, 12:58 I've got a dirt devil and lint roller for the car  Just a thought.. but I've been using our hoover every day for the last however long and never realised the wand came off!! Ours is a Dyson Animal - not sure which type, it's a little stowaway one where the tubing wraps around the body... it may be worthwhile double checking that you can't get the head to fit straight onto tubing as opposed to the wand because I didn't realise I could until my dad (who doesn't even live with us and when he did, did no housework!) was hoovering my car out and did it! katkin 23-04-2008, 15:42 pretty certain the one on the DC18 won[t come off - but will have another look. Def nothing in the instructions about it. Used the handheld Dyson Animal on the car this weekend- much more flexibility and it has great suction. Very handy. Every hoover I've ever tried to use on the car has been a faff |
