Having to take our puppy to the vets again tonight!

First took her friday night for a check up as she has just started her first season and I just wanted to get her checked out. He said all was fine and she was good on saturday apart from a little more tired and perhaps not eating as much as usual, but the vet advised this could be normal.

Then on sunday she woke up and was ok but by the afternoon she had been sick about 7 times in an hour. this settled down and she went to sleep so i thought it might have been something she had picked up but had passed.

Anyways today she is being sick again and has not been for a number 2 or eaten anything.

Getting a bit worried about her as she is not her ususal self and didnt even get excited about going for a walk.

Hopefully the vet can advise whats wrong and what we can do to help her.

Hope she's OK. She may be out of sorts because of the hormonal changes. Ailsa was OK with her first season but her first phantom was quite traumatic- she had to go to the vets and have a vitamin shot because she was expressing milk and didnt know what to do with herself. She's fine with them now though. Ideally, we should have had her spayed but a bad experience with a cat we had neutered which died on the op table put us off, plus docked breeds can have problems with incontinence after spaying and dobes are renowned for blood disorders that can cause complications during surgery... If she'd had major probs with her seasons we wouldve had her spayed - unspayed bitches run a higher risk of cancers and tumours and there is always the spectre of pyometra...

Anyway, hope your girl is feeling better now.

She is a bit better now, the vet said she may have a doggy form of gastroentoritis (?) or just an upset tummy from eating things off the floor on walks.

He gave her an injection and she hasnt been sick since so thats good.

Just a bit worried that she still seems quite quiet and not as energetic as usual. This may sound silly also, but I am paranoid that her tail isnt up as much as it usually is! I am trying to keep her upbeat and take her for walks and have fun and cuddles etc, but does it sound to you like she is depressed?

My OH says i'm being silly and its just that she feels off, like humans can do, and that if I was ill I probably wouldnt be running round all over the house and acting as I normally would.

:help:

your OH is right - her tail is drooping coz she's feeling sorry for herself, but that will sort itself out when she's on the mend

if she's eating things off the floor when you're out on walks, consider using a head collar such as a Halti so you can quickly and easily prevent her from swiping tasty 'snacks' she shouldn't have!
