Do you know what it's called these days, or is it long gone?

A map I'm looking at shows it being there in 1855, but that may not be the present building

There are lots of photo's of the'Hillsbourgh Inn'.
I have a book put out by The Star' More images of Sheffield'
In one photo the sign says"HILLSBRO INN" Issac Shires.Don Brewery Ales,Unfortunetly no Date.
This was my first watering hole when I was legaly able to drink.
That would be 1957.The Landlords name was Wilf, on quiet afternoons he would let you go round the bar and pull your own beer.At that time it was Tennants.A good pint!

I've found reference to it in 1852 so we're getting closer.

I'm sure that I have read somewhere that the inn was built in the 1770's.

I think I read it in one of the history of Hillsborough booklets put out by the former local history group.

Maybe someone could check it out/

Probably this....

Hillsborough by her people: a history of the district from earliest times, by Mathers, Helen, Class Number: 942.821
Hillsborough Local History Group 71p. ill. maps

There seems to be only one copy available in all of Sheffield libraries and this is at Hillsborough Library, - for reference only.

I don't know when Hillsborough was built but can tell you Sheffield Wednesday used to play where the dog track is at Owlerton. Thats where the throwback comes from, 'are you going watch the football at Owlerton'

Hillsboro Inn closed in 1960 and was previously used by officers from the barracks on Langsett rd.It is now a coffee shop called Java Lounge.
