Have you tried the KC puppy sales register:
http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/asp/PSAR/psar-search.asp?breed=Basset+Hound&loc=4
There seems to be a litter on there that must be about 5 weeks at present. Otherwise, it'll be worth contacting the breed club (http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/asp/PSAR/psar-search.asp?breed=Basset+Hound&loc=4) which has a breeders section on the website.
I've just increased the size to help you see it!
fabcakes 13-04-2008, 21:46 :hihi:OK sorry i didnt no :)
ITS OK YOUR NOT THE FIRST TO ASK IT DOS'NT BOTHER ME ITS JUST PART OF THE NORM !!:nod:

I'd definitely go with the Kennel Club too- there are a lot of scams out there but KC are pretty reliable. Good luck. You could also try Basset Hound Rescue
ok - how about you alter your screen settings so you can see your own typing? (although you didn't have any trouble reading the replies by the looks of things  )
Do you have previous experience of Basset Hounds or do you just like the look of them? They are notoriously difficult dogs to own, train and live with, and reputedly only suitable for those with a real affinity for the breed. I am a beagle owner - a hound with similar stubbornness and scent motivation, but the Basset just knocks the beagle into a cocked hat for being 'difficult'. They are only short, but they are big dogs, prone to back, eye and ear problems, besides the VERY doggy odour they emit!!!
If you are looking for a good breeder, get yourself to a suitable dog show - usually a champ show for a breed such as this which are a bit thin on the ground. Make sure you talk to a lot of breeders - that way you'll get to find out who's only in it for the money, who's suspected of puppy farming (yes, you can get KC reg'd puppy farmed pups ;) ) and who really knows their stuff and bloodlines
Never phone anybody who's advertising in the newspapers or on the internet. Always make sure you know the 'reputation' of the person you're arranging to purchase a pup from - and make sure that the breeder has a lifetime returns policy - that way you know you're not lining the pockets of somebody who just doesn't care what happens to the rest of the litter!
fabcakes 15-04-2008, 23:01 no ive not had a basset hound before but im making shure i am finding out every thing first i know they are not your normal ever day dog for one it will be inshuredand yes larger print is beer my hubby reads the ones that are to small :)

she's lost her memory the docs said it wont get any better
they think it will be a danger to have stay in her home anymore
Sorry to hear that fabcakes. :(
It is important that she is looked after well and if a home is the best place for her it's best to take the advice to keep her safe and properly looked after. Make sure you look around different homes if you can and decide which is the best for her and your family, there is a big difference between places and I know you will want whatever is best for her.
Sometimes things do improve and you are probably the best person to notice the little things. Maybe someone on the carers group might be able to give you some good advice?
fabcakes 24-07-2008, 20:01 i carnt look at the homes for her my brother wont let me all i get is im the next of kin it's up to me .

http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn142/fabcackes/HELLO.jpg
I JUST HAVE A FEW PROBS ALREADYI THINK SHE'S A LITTLE CONFUSED I HAVE A DOG CRATE OFF WITCH SHE KEEPS GOING IN TO DO HER WEE'S & POOS I DO TAKE HER IN THE BUZY PEN WHARE MY TWO GUDE DOGS GO TO DO THERE RELAVING AND I CLEAN UP AFTER THEM ALL THE TIME EVEN WHEN JUNE HAS MESSED
I JUST CARNT UNDERSTAND WHY SHE'S RELAIVING HER SELF IN THE DOG CRATE I KNOW NOT TO USE IT AS A PUNISHMENT ,
ONLY FOR TIME OUT FROM THE FAMILEY AND ALSO FOR HER !
ALSO WE FOUND OUT THAT SHE'S GOT A GOOD PAIR OF LUNGS ON HER AS WE FOUND OUT LAST NIGHT WE PICKED HER UP A DAY EARLY
I DIDENT GET TO BED UNTILL 3.45 IN THE EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING
SHE SETTELD DOWN TONIGHT HOWLING AGAIN
BUT NOT SO BAD THIS TIME!
Hehe - welcome to hound ownership ;)
We had similar problems with our beagle, but reputedly owning a basset is the only thing you can do to punish yourself more than owning a beagle - they're not for the faint hearted!
Do you have any idea what her sleeping arrangements etc were when she was with her breeder?
Loving those photo's :D and the one where her ears are inside out - Brude does that but his are so stiff they stick out like aeroplane wings :hihi:
She is lovely. I love the colourings and the massive floppy ears! I've never seen a Basset Hound in the flesh until a couple of weeks ago and they are actually quite big dogs, with little legs, she looks quite big already how old is she?

it about 12 o clock becourse its late when she settles dawn we have her runnig about but not to mutch becorse of her legs
i know you carnt let them run to mutch becourse there legs are not fully develoved yet!
she isent as bad naw she hasent messed today
except for when i put her in her cage to give ramble & fern a break
as soon as i put her in she weed strait away and i had her in the bizzy pen a good 10 mins:huh:
for starters, she isn't going to know what the busy bin is for yet, and there must be some reason she thinks that her crate is the place to go
if she's weed in it before, it'll most likely smell like it's supposed to be the place, so you'll need a good odour destroyer such as Safe4 to remove that. Next time she soils her crate, mop up with kitchen towel, and place the towel in the busy bin so she can smell it's the right place to go
once you've cracked her going in the right place at least some times it'll be easier to stop her from going in the wrong place
you don't know what the arrangements were with her breeder then?
if she's been sleeping in a whelping box and 'exercising' in a puppy pen (with similar bars) for instance, that may explain a her behaviour
fabcakes 04-08-2008, 22:41 that is what i have done
i did all this i am quite informed as we have done puppy walking for guidedogs i have allways usd the bizzying pen for all the puppys we have raised this one is strange to me
iuse jays to clean the crate in the pen then wash it down after
the onley thing i can think of is she has probiley been used to doing it with the breeders
the breders looked very clean people though !
fabcakes 04-08-2008, 22:44 She is lovely. I love the colourings and the massive floppy ears! I've never seen a Basset Hound in the flesh until a couple of weeks ago and they are actually quite big dogs, with little legs, she looks quite big already how old is she?
she is 14 week hwr mum was a very big dog and lovly too
her dad was just demented and daft :loopy::hihi:
hmmm, can you try putting her in her crate and scooping her straight back out with a firm 'no' when she tries to squat? Not easy extricating a dog from a crate though!
hi, im also wanting a basset hound, just trying to get round hubby , hes always wanted a basset hound but just doesnt want an extra pet at mo as we already have a dog n 2 guinea pigs. we cant afford a lot but can easily afford to care for it properly. obviously i wouldnt have another dog if i couldnt afford it. its just the initial cost. so whats the average price for a basset.
oh and fab cakes ,, that is one gorgeous doggy.

i just can't imagine life with out her & she loves toilet rolls & tissues as we have found out !!
shes naw 6 month old she not as bad as what i expected
with basset hounds .we have coped quite well.
i think the only trouble we have had is the house training.

i do see what people meant by them being stubborn though
but you see i'm just as stubborn.
i paid £700 for June and she was worth ever penny .!!!

Moonbird 13-10-2008, 18:06 Aww June is still just beautiful and a nice size too not too big, what a pretty little girl :)
What a beautiful thing! You must be very proud :)
hehehe - isn't hound ownership an experience? :D
If we were to have a basset, I've decided we'd be contacting a hunting pack rather than a show breeder - those dogs really are completely different, and so much fitter and heathier than your average show dog
I've no idea how much they cost from hunting stock, though I have a feeling it's less than show ones
fabcakes 13-10-2008, 23:03 I LOVE MY DOGGIES :love::love::love::love::love:

muckynees 14-10-2008, 09:15 Aww fabcakes, she's beautiful!
I do envy people that have a few pooches, I have two dogs and we would love another but have decided that it would have to be a really small dog due to space issues but unfotunately we don't have the funds to buy from breeders etc so it's a case of waiting until the right dog comes up for rehoming or adoption.
I bet you have loads of fun taking them all for walks, you're so lucky!

there is a lot to take in to consideration when having a dog or a puppy you are best reading about the breed first
or if its a mongrel try to find out what the dog is crossed with to try and get some sort of idea haw your dogs going to be just so you can get prepared for the troubles that will possibly arise good luck with your new dogie
fabcakes 14-10-2008, 12:02 its a shame your having a smaller dog
i know some one whos rehomeing a lurcher cross they are taking care of becourse they are ill

You'll find that the biggest squabbles break out on forums when one or two users are breaking the rules the rest have to adhere to
People who claim not to be able to see other people's posts have a habit of causing upset - hence my post
Fabcakes and I don't have any ongoing friction from this discussion, so there is no need to try to kick any off
fabcakes 28-10-2008, 00:35 im not breaking any rules & whos kiking off i havent said anything
this is one of the resons ive stopped using this site !
gazelle is kicking off ;)
you're not breaking any rules now, but when you first joined you were posting in a fashion prohibited in the rules
no idea why gazelle felt the need to stick an oar in when peace was clearly reigning on the thread since

and what way was i breaking the rules becourse i had no idea ?
We inherited a 9 year old basset and had her for 4 excellent years, she was the most wonderful stubborn, loving hound, (who sang all day when we were out!). Amazing with kids (including those who poked her in the eye and stood on her tail), walking took some time as everything smelt interesting to her, and many a time off the lead she would be a spot in the distance, then realise she had lost us and come bounding back (often treading on her ears and falling over). The hoover was always on as well, but I would never change having owned such an interesting and entertaining breed of dog.
We have a staffy now, but hope later in life we will have another (couple of) bassetts as they are amazing!

It was breaking the rules because you were typing in large letters and all in capitals but you explained and there was no further problem...there still is no problem or the thread would not have remained.
There is no reason to be upset now or rake over what was sorted out ages ago, you are welcome to post here as is anyone that loves pets and has something to say on the subject...you never cause any problems here, just forget about it all now and get on with posting more pics of the delightful June :D
