I have been with T*scaly for a long time....
And they e-mail me saying "U use more than 30GB on the unmetered service u pay for so we will feel free to terminate ur account whenever we feel like it", apparently i come into 1% of the users who use more than 30GB of bandwidth, the rest use less than 1GB (a month). Well I listen to Internet radio all day (at 190K), i stream music (from 128K to 320K+) to listen at work or use Remote Desktop as well as download mp3s form internet. It would be nice and fair if they told me "we caping ur bandwidth to 30GB", but nooooo they threaten me with accoun termination. Just coz some grandads use 20MB a month to email their complaints to US goverment. Surely if thers only 1% of us we can have our own "non-dinosour" service. Soooooo haked offfff  !

Well anyway, the question is: Is there an ISP that could satisfy my needs, which is to provide me with a true unlimited broadband thats not going to change its policy on me....?
Than q!!

I have broadband with Telewest and with Virgin (at different properties), and both of them are fully unmetered! Virgin is good in the fact that there is no minimum 12 month contract, but their customer service sucks!

This is what most ISP's would like you to believe and indeed, that's what they offer, but when you read the fine print, most isp's have a limit and just like adaline has found, you will be notified of excessive use.
I think this stinks and someone ought to take action to stop this false advertising!.

I'd better check the small print then! I'm on here 24/7! That probably over 30GB a month!

Not unless your downloading films/music all the time ;). I very much doubt you'd reach 30GB. Infact adaline is the first person i have come across in ages who has reached a limit :).

Adaline,

Just to draw your attention to the fact that Tiscali does not support "migration" which adds an extra headache to switching suppliers.

Read about transferring/migrating half way down this page. (http://support.metronet.co.uk/sales/adsl.xhtml1#transfer)

The ADSL Guide Website here (http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/summarylist.asp) is also very good for ISP information and comparisons.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I've been with Bulldog and they have THE WORST customer service and internet service I have ever had the misfortune to come across.

I had to get out of my contract within 4 months of service because of how bad they are.
Seriously they may have good marketting but AVOID like the PLAGUE.

Try www.adslguide.org.uk (message boards) for info on different ISP's.

A friend of mine has been purposely abusing Pipex for 6 months to see if they'd complain, & nothing yet despite 25GB+ an month...

They're not as cheap as others though.

I used to absolutely hammer my old Telewest connection (way, way over 30gb) before I moved and never had a peep out of them. Currently on Freedom2Surf and haven't had a problem with these either although I don't download nearly as much as I used to - ours is uncapped and we have it in writing it will be staying that way but I'm not sure if they still offer uncapped on new sign ups - you'll need to check as last time I looked I think they were just introducing caps.....?

Hear, hear.

It's fair enough that ISPs want to maintain a good service for the majority of their customers and if limiting excessive users is the most effective way to do so then they have to do it. However, if they operate such a strategy they should not be allowed to advertise their service as "uncapped"/"unmetered"/etc because it simply is NOT. They should be made to advertise the limit clearly, in this case 30gb.
