Hi there

I just wanted to ask if anyone here has both bt option 3 and second life and if they have ever had the line restricted due to "fair usage policy" reasons.

Im quite a considerate net user and not complaining about the unlimited aspect as i know this means i have no upper limit to how much i download just that my speed might get restricted to make it nicer for others...which i agree with.

I just wanted to know IF anyone has reached that limit and what it actually was.

Thanks all

Don't BT sell Option 3 as "unlimited"?

On closer inspection, their fair use policy does allow them to restrict your speed if you download too much, but they dont say how much is too much.

9. How do I know I’m a very heavy user?

There is no hard and fast usage limit that determines if you are a heavy user as the parameters that determine heavy use vary with the demands placed on the network at that given time.

The upper limit for most "unlimited" ISPs is about 40GB, but that's just a guess, it could be anything...

I've just moved from BT after 9 years with their internet, not because of the service or anything, its just we got a very good deal with Virgin Media.

They are great! Its a great service! I used to download lots of films and music and never had any emails or anything from them saying I'm reaching a limit (although mine was also option 3).

Unless your downloading stuff 24/7 non-stop, I wouldn't worry.

A word of warning though, as is usual with companies these days, their customer service team are absolute garbage. Based in India, its almost impossible to understand what in the hell they're saying! It sounds like someone drowning...

Im interested to see if their cap is based on how long your line speed is running 100%. It seems people with higher speed lines get capped quicker than others.....and it doesnt seem to be based on the amount downloaded.....otherwise everyone would get capped at 40gb or something.

Ive seen people with 40,50,60,100,150gb downloaded each month so it doesnt seem uniform. The 2 possible factors are the time of day those people download and maybe the amount of time they are maxing out their connection.

It wouldnt suprise me to hear of someone well over 300gb who has just throttled their own connection to avoid saturating the lines for other uses they are contended with.

Thanks for the info and let me know what you think about this.
