The stepping stones across the river near the cafe have somehow been dislodged. No idea if they were washed downstream or 'helped' on their way. But I do know that the council claim to be unable to afford to have them replaced.
Unable to afford it?! Ridiculous!
I've emailed my complaint, and I encourage anyone else who uses the park to do likewise.

Dislodged?! Probably weigh a ton each easy! Will have a look next time down
Hard to see how this could happen .... possibly part of the sewarage/construction work?

How long before someone reckons it's to do with the Great Hillsborough Flood? (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32899) :D

Nowhere near the drainage work. The stones are/were on something of a ledge, so dislodging them wouldn't be too hard - the couple (or 3, memory fails me) that have moved are a matter of feet downstream, so haven't gone far.
It's happened before, sometime in the distant past.
It was 'yobs' then.
They were replaced, but never seemed the same.
Pity.

I am delighted to announce that my 4 year old Grandson can now cross both ways without assistance ( I was standing close to him in case he fell in )
I have memories from 50 + years ago of crossing those with my Dad.
What a delight on a Sunday to walk from Highfields, over Sharrow Head to Hunters Bar and then up the valley to Forge Dam. We would catch the tram back from Fulwood Church to the bottom of Ecclesall Road and then walk home. On the way up, Dad would tell me about when he swam in the pool between the Hunters Bar entrance and the play area. There were boats on the dam above the cafe and trout under the bridge at the top of the dam before crossing Rustlings Road.
After crossing Hangingwater Road, there was a dam immediately on the right, where Dad once pointed out to me a Pike swimming near the edge.
In recent years we have laughed about a comment that Dad made about the head goit flowing into Wire Mill Dam. ' It looks as though it runs uphill ' he would say. When you are up there next have a look and yes it does look slightly that it runs uphill !
The simple pleasures of life passed down the generations.
Dad took my elder brother on the same walk, I took my sons and now my Grandson has been up and down there a number of times.
Yes me too i was brought up in Hunters Bar and today i ,parked the car at Endcliffe Park, and have walked to Forge Dam with my 11 year old daughter.
HAPPY DAYS.
