View Full Version : Kickboxing Fight Night, Sunday 1st June 2008
chefkicker 11-04-2008, 17:42 Hi Everyone
Kickboxing returns once again to the
PARK AND GARDNERS SOCIAL CLUB
Cricket Inn Road sheffield.
This is the 7th event in the series. So far all of the shows have been well attended and all received excellent reviews (apart from one in which everything that could go wrong did! :hihi:)
The last one we promoted gave us a lot to live up to in terms of actual quality of fights.
This time the show will be SUNDAY Yes thats right a sunday! The 1st of June.
The show will feature between 5 and 7 fighters from AFK (if we can get them matched) and also 3 fighters from the SDF gym.
There are no plans to include any of the semi contact or karate orientated "kickboxing" clubs in sheffield at present.
AFK shows are exciting shows with the feel of "Fight club" and we want to portray kickboxing in an exciting light. Less of the "fancy packaging" and "flicky - tippy tappy" stuff we want to provide the punters with Blood ,sweat and tears, Knockouts and brutal tear ups.
The AFK fighters will do their bit as they always do wether they win/lose or draw.
The event will be featuring :
Shane Beard Vs a Selected opponent (name not available at present , sorry but watch this space) as the main event.
Supporting stars will be the Teenage sensations:
Yousif Ibrahim = Storm Force British Champion under K-1 rules who will be fighting for an ISKA amateur title under Full Contact rules (totally different rules to K-1)
6'2" KO Specialist Joe McGovan will be trying to keep up his 2-0 record undefeated
The entertaining Safa Ibrahim is matched against a credible instructor from down south who has got both Kickboxing and MMA experience (and who also won his last fight by KO)
Full fight card and further information will be available shortly.
Freddylee 12-04-2008, 17:53 looks like an exiting line up. is Naz khan fighting agan? his last fight caused a right riot!!!

Really think you need to get over yourself. Who are the "kickboxing" clubs you refer to? It's down to comments such as above that other Sheffield clubs show no interest in putting their fighters forward for your events. Seems to me that your shows at the Park and Gardners are purely for self gratification. I can't help but wonder when these events will only be for AFK fighters as no others would be interested. LMFAO

Calm down calm down he was only saying.
Kieran101 12-04-2008, 21:22 We're all entitled to our opinion just that seems of us seem to feel the need to shout from the rooftops.

LOL at your comment with the "LMFAO". I personally think that "lmfao" was an expression of anger as your post was a very angry one.
The shows at the Park Gardners are mostly "private parties" for the most part.
I could not care less for clubs that turn out poorly conditioned karate practitioners pretending to be kickboxers.
They can all stick to fighting each other as far as I am bothered. I notice you hide behind what can only be described as a "trolling account". Everyone knows who i am , no one knows who you are :suspect:
I think that says it all.
RE: Only AFK fighters fighting on our shows? Well out of the 6 so far , 2 of them have been full of AFK Fighters fighting out of towners. Woops my mistake one of those was AFK fighters and Black Dragons ( a club worthy of sharing the RING yes the ring not the "Tatami" with AFK fighters).
As for Self Gratification ??? Have i rocked your cradle? RE: No other fighters interested, a GOOD Kickboxing club would put fighters out more than just twice a year . LOL!!!
Fighters fighting on our shows hail from respected Thaiboxing (yes thats right those nut cases who kick with their SHINS !!!) and MMA camps (as you know the MMA crowd are tough people with well developed stand up skills, better than a lot of "kickboxers" ) .
By all means continue fuming and foaming at the mouth. Does not really affect me. It is a pity though . (NOT)
Kieran101 13-04-2008, 00:22 It's not angry, more annoyed, your post/opinion however you try to sell it, is offensive. Worthy of sharing the ring with AFK fighters? Get you, no wonder you either have to put on your own shows for your fighters to compete or travel out of Sheffield. With such arrogance it's a wonder you are able to even get a ticket to any show other than your own!! Do I detect a hint of sour grapes?
Kieran101 13-04-2008, 00:23 p.s. note you're not willing to name any of these poorlyy conditioned kickboxing pretenders, lol
chefkicker 13-04-2008, 00:40 It's not angry, more annoyed, your post/opinion however you try to sell it, is offensive. Worthy of sharing the ring with AFK fighters? Why should we want to or need to go on any other shows in sheffield? Our guys are happy to fight on my shows.
Good refereeing and judging= We have Dave Jackson (yes thats right, Mike Bispings coach , oh thats the guy from the UFC by the way :hihi:) refereeing,
Judges who score a bout well (we seldom if ever get complaints about judging not even from the out of town fighters).
The fighters feel safe knowing they are well refereed.
Fair and Correct matchmaking = None of this bull **** of matching fighters such as:
Record of 1W-3L with someone with 4W-2L.
Also none of this "lets only look after the ticket sellers". Everyone gets a fair deal wether they sell NO tickets or wether they sell 100.
Im sure you have noticed that yourself :D
ALL good kickboxing clubs should travel out of town to fight. Dont just stay in your own back yard , real fighters fight away from home too.
Also our fighters dont just fight one set of rules.
Light continuous (mainly for the novices) Full contact, Low kick, K-1 , Thaiboxing, AFK fighters have done it all.
Kieran101 13-04-2008, 10:56 Whatever, your attitude, ignorance and arrogance. I wish you all the best.
chefkicker 15-04-2008, 12:42 Whatever, your attitude, ignorance and arrogance. I wish you all the best.
Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.
Ignorance= That is what you have brought to this thread without seeing the bigger picture. Your lack of knowledge in kickboxing (yes KICKBOXING not karate or kung fu) has been shown in your angry posts (followed by the spitting of the proverbial dummy at the end).
Arrogance= Perhaps, but being surrounded by such a lack of kickboxing knowlegde it is hard not to be :hihi:
On a serious note, i think you need to have a look at proper kickboxing and try different training methods.
Try the "dutch glove drills" or the padwork methods used by the thais. Just a bit of advice thats all.
No need to live in the 1980's were in 2008 !
:help:
Urban_Pebbles 15-04-2008, 13:44 Hey Farhad,
Looking forward to it!
Are the Newcastle, Scarborough, Leicester and many others coming down for it again?
chefkicker 15-04-2008, 17:06 Hey Farhad,

Hi Urban Pebbles.
Newcastle KO, (Keris gym ) will be back again with her well conditioned fight squad in the camoflage trunks.
Scarborough Muay thai were greatly offended by disrespectful comments made towards the instructor by another sheffield based promoter (mentioning no names ).
Kru (thats thai for instructor) Nick Philips was wearing the thaiboxing cornerman's waistcoat (as is normally seen at traditional muay thai shows) and was told by said promoter that he "looks like a clown in his circus outfit".
Now i might be able to get him down but he has since boycotted our shows. Should be ok though.
Dion Oakes has cut weight and is now down 2 divisions!!!
There are more from 2 more liverpool gyms and Yousif is fighting a nottingham lad for an ISKA title fight.
Weve also got more from Nottingham down too.

yes it is ofencive but why the hell should AFK not put on their own shows? I say good idea !!!
when i fought for AFK we travlled all over the place i even travelled to london to compete in a thaiboxing show as there was no shows in sheffuield to go to the only oens theydid have was light contact! You think your fighters are that good then why dont you fight the AFK fighters?you scared that yopur fihters would get smashed up?
chefkicker 21-04-2008, 17:09 We have only 2 VIP Tables left the rest have been reserved in advance.
Who else wants me to save them some tickets, ring me on 07775 914155.
This event WILL be sold out so please let me know to avoid dissapointment.

No not really.

Nobody from Sheffield academy , marsdens ,... or any of those type of clubs will feature on this event.

Indeed :hihi:
Seems a lot of fighting threads go this way... usually the ones that are 'discussing' kickboxing.
Often the same people involved too... :hihi:

Terrible isnt it. The amount of politics in kickboxing is holding the sport back.
There is no need for such kind of politics in my opinion.

No restriction on photography mate. Is photography something you do a lot of ?
The audience is closer to the ring than any other show in south yorkshire guaranteed!

Manorblade 25-04-2008, 22:54 Sadly i had the misfortune to go to one of the previous events and it was absolute garbage!
I would not waste your time or money.
I have been to many of these type of meeting and trust me these guys are the most unorganised self gratisfying people you will ever come across.
The whole night was a Shambles from start to finish, i took family who where here from Australia and they could not find a good word to say about the whole night, to be honest i felt ashamed that they had paid money to watch it.
A guy involved in this was also involved in a fight night at the Octagon and that was the same including 14 fights which turned into 7 after the fighters did not turn up.
Oh and dont even attemp to support anyone else but these guys fighters or u will get stared out all night by steroid boys.
One plus is that there where some guys trying real hard to get things sorted and get people to enjoy there night but sadly they still keep the hangers on.
I really hope this goes well as Sheffield need's a decent event again.
I hope this time it all goes well but i for one would sooner stick a rusty nail in my privates.
I always enjoy watching Shane and i also known him for a while and he's pretty good but wont waste my money AGAIN!

The whole night was about a bunch of guys saying look at me and showing off to friends.

Hi ManorBlade,
I am terribly shocked to read this statement of yours.
Exactly what do you mean by the "steroid boys" who were staring you out?
We dont have people on steroids at AFK.
With regard to " A guy involved in this was also involved in a fight night at the Octagon and that was the same including 14 fights which turned into 7 after the fighters did not turn up" :
1. We are NOTHING to do with the promoter at the Octagon
2. The fight at the octagon did have a lot of fights cancelled. At our show we had all 14 bouts running and all 14 were exciting. Ok granted the one at the start had to be a Demo bout due to weight difference but the rest were proper action packed fights.
There were even 5 or 6 KO's!
3. Who are these hanger ons you refer to? Which crowd were staring you out? I.E Who's supporters?
If you dont highlight the problem i cannot rectify the situation.
Regards
Farhad Ali

Manorblade 25-04-2008, 23:35 If i have 2 seperate meetings mixed up then i apologise but i find it hard for you to miss pumped up steroid boys giving people the eye, just watch at the next event and you will see for yourself.
The hangers on are also easy to see,the friends who are smoking at the fire exits and just hanging about at the fighters entrance, they also do what they like without being stopped by the staff while decent people who have paid there money get bad atitude when asking a simple question.
In my opinion if u are known by the organisers then go but if not? u will get rude remarks and total lack of interest from staff.
The staff where really poor and where to busy flirting with each other to be bothered about anything else.
I honestly hope this goes well for you mate as i have said before Sheffield needs it.
Who is Shane Beard fighting seen him fight a couple of times is a quality fighter will be good to see him fight hopefully i can get along to this one
chefkicker 26-04-2008, 12:41 ManorBlade I will answer your queries one by one :
I do expect a response from you by the way.
Q1. If i have 2 seperate meetings mixed up then i apologise but i find it hard for you to miss pumped up steroid boys giving people the eye, just watch at the next event and you will see for yourself.
A: I have no control over who the fighters sell tickets to. Thankfully the security staff , Brett Stocks and co from Knox Security will not tolerate them taking anything a step further. Besides , our own fighters even wont let some "plasticman" throw their weight around physically. So you have nothing to fear when it comes to your own safety ;)
Q2. The hangers on are also easy to see,the friends who are smoking at the fire exits and just hanging about at the fighters entrance, they also do what they like without being stopped by the staff while decent people who have paid there money get bad atitude when asking a simple question.
Noone smokes at our shows, it is a non-smoking area . We dont allow ANYONE to smoke in the building they have to go outside.
The people hanging around the fighters entrance: is it a tallish asian lad with spiky hair handing out flyers by any chance?
We have had numerous complaints from many of our loyal supporting clubs re: disrespectful comments made by the same group of individuals and we will adress the matter. There will be a meeting in place to decide what will be done about them. The decision made might make a rift in sheffields kickboxing community but we will make the decision for the greater good of the paying public.
Q3. In my opinion if u are known by the organisers then go but if not? u will get rude remarks and total lack of interest from staff.
The staff where really poor and where to busy flirting with each other to be bothered about anything else.
A: Which members of staff are you on about? Can you please specify?
What were they doing that was so "poor" and what "rude remarks" did they make? Please specify.
You have made statements that are potentially damaging to reputations and I am now asking you to back up those same statements.
I sincerely hope that this is not just hopeless "trolling" . I can just as easily bring up archives from this website and others that will totally contradict everything you have thus far detailed.
Q4: I honestly hope this goes well for you mate as i have said before Sheffield needs it
A: I hope so too and thank you for the well wishes but once again if what you have said are serious comments and you are NOT one of those trouble makers at the shows then I will take steps to prevent trouble makers from coming to the shows. Again PLEASE describe the trouble makers who are hanging about near the fighters entrance.
Regards
Farhad Ali
P.S If you wish to talk further then my mobile number is 07775 914155 text me your number and i will ring you back.
I will ring you most likely after the weekend and am willing to listen to what you have to say. You will not be shown any attitude or given any threats.
I know another promoter that if you give him any constructive criticism he will say " if you didnt agree with XYZ then dont come again"
AFK promotions are run by RESPECTABLE , APPROACHABLE and PROFESSIONAL people. We are not "wannabee gangsters" we do not threaten people with violence and we do not issue verbal abuse towards people who dont agree with us.
We at AFK await your response.
Chefkicker is Shane Beard still on it??

I think you have mentioned that you were not involved in the last event at the octagon but i could be wrong? that night was a joke anyway whoever organised it.
Freddylee u are exactly the problem that i have been talking about making stupid threats, Brett would have no problems finding out who i am or even where i live as he as been to my home a couple of times for some business we did a while ago. Oh and kickboxing to tough? No my friend just dont like a sport i love being ruinied by people like yourself.
You also mentioned his company which could possibly do more damage than i could ever do and if you have noticed i have not once mentioned any names or companies in case i was wrong which would not be right to the people involved.
Can you please show me where i mentioned Brett or his company please? thought so because i aint.
Once again chef i hope all goes well for you on the night.
Manorblade 05-05-2008, 01:46 Are u making a threat freddy?
maybe thats why so many people send me private messages instead of posting on here.
LMAO u see people?
Threats for posting an opinion and things and names mentioned that i have not even spoke about!!
Putting words in to peoples mouths or what.
chefkicker 05-05-2008, 11:02 Cheers for reply chef,

I am very sorry to hear you have been getting abusive PM's .
Now i wish to clear one thing up.
1. I am NOT involved with the Octagon shows!!!
2. AFK people are NOT wannabee gangsters!!! AFK is a very cosmopolitan community consisting of people from all walks of life from all over the world.
I must admit however that a large percentage of AFK are academics , i.e. people highly unlikely to make threats of violence.
3.Our event staff do NOT wear Yellow T Shirts.
They walk around in suits trying to look important :hihi:
You have got us both mixed up and this post has damaged our reputation.
The security wearing yellow T shirts are at the OCTAGON , their shows are called SHOWDOWN and so the posts you made about "steroid boys" and feeling threatened and about it being a waste of money, you should be posting your opinions on THEIR thread and not ours!!!
That way both our own events AND Bretts security company's names are in the clear.
Cool fights chefkicker hopefully work schedule will allow me to make it, will be interested to see the main event i saw shaun lomas fight medhi from wicker camp a couple of weeks ago ftr for ikf british title so it should be a good fight, is it full thai rules??
I know area titles arent but i saw an iska area title last year that was full thai rules

Hi Bovy
Under the ISKA , there are 4 disciplines.
The main ones are:
FC = Full contact kickboxing , basically what used to be called Full Contact karate , the usual kicks above belt, long trousers used.
Low kick= What we used to call KICKBOXING rules , what i call proper kickboxing :P
Shorts are worn and kicks to the legs allowed.
Then there is :
Thaikickboxing = Basically the modified version of the thaiboxing rules. NO elbows at all and they break up the clinch is there is no activity (not to be confused with K-1 where the clinch is broken straight away)
Muay Thai= FULL rules + Elbows + Thai music + 1st round is always scored even + 2 minutes break between rounds.
Hope this answers your question mate.
Do you train at wicker camp?

Where does the oft-quoted 'Oriental Rules' come into it? Is that the modified Thaiboxing rules? What's the difference between Low Kick and Thaikickboxing? No knees in Low Kick?

Oriental rules is basically modified thaiboxing rules.
The oriental rules seems to have various interpretations these days.
Low kick allows kicks to the legs but no knees.
Manorblade 07-05-2008, 20:18 Ok chef sorry to ou for getting things mixed up and now we both know who i was on about i sincerely apologise mate.

so you say you keep getting messages from the octagon promoter lmao
so if you take the sdf fights out what do you think of the fights at the last octagon show u were at?
did you think there anyone good apart from scot alex and shane?

Aren't you forgetting the best fight of the night, Adam V Simon?
chefkicker 08-05-2008, 12:55 Aren't you forgetting the best fight of the night, Adam V Simon?
That was a cracking fight! Had me on the edge of my seat. At times I thought Simon was going to stop his younger opponent.
Another thing to consider is that was Simon Marsdens VERY FIRST full contact fight!
Im glad that he has left the light contact circuit behind as he was clearly overqualified to have been competing at that level.
The above sentiment had been echoed by many people. This first step he took was one he probably should have taken years ago and I think everyone is glad he did it.
If Simon had played by the rules however the decision may have gone his way. Not taking anything off my mate Adam Lawrence though ;)
That fight itself MADE the whole show . well that and Scot Syke's fight. The rest quite simply lacked excitement. Oh well you cant have everything.
Kieran101 08-05-2008, 13:06 No not really.
Only Shane Beard, Joe McGovan and Paul Cropper from SDF and also Yousif &Safa Ibrahim from AFK the twins from AFK and 3 or 4 other AFK fighters.
Nobody from Sheffield academy , marsdens ,... or any of those type of clubs will feature on this event.
 discuss 'type of clubs' Unless I'm seriously mistaken I thought these 2 clubs provided the best fight? So why wouldn't you want their fighters on your card? Am I missing something?
Manorblade 08-05-2008, 15:21 I enjoyed watching Scott just a shame he got kicked in the bo**ox or it would have been better.
Cant remember the last guys who where on but to be honest i really enjoyed that.
The main problem's where lack of organisation, no atmosphere and total waste of time fights.
Hey Mr Ali,
Hope everything is going well over in England, I hear it is sunny over there too, I doubt it matches our current 38 degree's though ;)
Training over here is going really, really well, I love it... My kicks are coming along now and maybe now I'll be able to block one or two of Safa's leg kicks in a rematch, haha. Hopefully when I get back I can fight with my good friends Safa and Brent before if successful going for a title towards the end of next year? ;)
Perhaps getting ahead of myself, however we can all dream right? :P Feel free to drop me an email and let me know how everything is going on over there : Marc.Aplin@gmail.com
chefkicker 08-05-2008, 19:19  discuss 'type of clubs' Unless I'm seriously mistaken I thought these 2 clubs provided the best fight? So why wouldn't you want their fighters on your card? Am I missing something?
You brought them into the discussion not me. Did you read above ? Simon Marsden had his FIRST full contact fight on this show. My fighters will be ready for their first fight after between 6 months and a year of training.
Simon Marsden may have given an exciting novice fight, well done to him but once again its not really that much of a big deal for the following reasons.
1. At our show I would say that 90% of the fighters are capable of such action. Some of these are actual first timers who have never done ANY kind of semi or light contact experience. Many of whom have only trained for a year or so.
2.Simon has been training in martial arts for over 20 years. I would expect NO LESS from one with such amount of experience.
In kickboxing as a whole only something like 1% will EVER compete , at AFK id say that figure will be about 20%. What is the figure at Marsdens or sheffield Academy can you tell me please?
Question time. Using an example, Naz Khan .
Naz aged 18 at the time and weighing 57kg fully clothed had his first Full contact fight against Ashley Goodwin from Kaobon in Chester.
For your information Kaobon is considered on an equal footing with Wicker Camp so use your intellect and draw your own conclusions.
Ashley Goodwin was 2-0 , Naz had been training THREE months.
After the 3 rounds many locals in the crowd came up to us stating that they thought Naz had won (home town decisions happen sometimes but it was close.). There were respected thaiboxing instructors , Ian Stewart, Jonathan Bates and Mike Thomas ALL from respected Muay thai clubs in wales all stating that Naz deserved to win.
Oh i didnt mention that Naz took the fight at 12 hours notice.
Question Time again : How many fighters from M.A.S or S.A.M.A would take fights at such notice? FULL contact fights that is not Light contact.
To my knowledge we are the only club that put fighters in at such notice or wait a minute ,.... Andy Marlow does that too.
Naz is just ONE example of what you can expect from an AFK fighter .
We dont profess to be the best, but make no mistake we arent pussies either!
I'd like to give another example that includes Naz, havent Naz and one of the local instructors shared a common opponent? How did things shape out in both cases?
Now all i have to look forward to from you is a rather rude , arrogant and ignorant reply. You always speak without knowledge. In future speak with knowledge and not with emotional attachment to your club.
Ouch, you answered Kieren over me... I see how it is :P

Hi Mark
You want a rematch? No F***ing way!!! :hihi:
Naah just kidding im sure it will happen sometime. You and Brent Crawley? That is the match i have planned for you when you get back. Title fight depends on how many fights you have had in thailand.
I have an even better idea Aplin, fancy fighting Safa, Brent and Aaron behan all in the same night ;)
Add me on msn , we will chat .:D
Hey, I did add you :) add me : Elmo_aplin@hotmail.com
I'd love to fight Brent, I really respect him and I class Rough House as the best MMA gym in the country, so a victory over Brent would really stand out on my record. Also we both like to bang and both have some good kicks, me now at 65kg also makes it an even better match.
I need to fight Safa again one day though... maybe even for a title ;) I wouldn't say training in Thailand has turned me into a monster or anything, so don't worry about me coming back at a ridiculasly high level, etc, etc... it is more about learning to control my pace and kick the right kick instead of flying about like a mad men (i.e. last fight) haha.
I would do it... if you paid me =P I am not to worried about being kicked or punched any more seeing as it happens to me about 4 hours a day and technically I pay for it, haha.
Doubt I will fight over here, been offered two fights, but 5 x 3 minute rounds, knees and elbows allowed with just 1000BHT as a tempter (about 15.00) no chance. When I get to Puket and Chiang Mai next year then yeah no probs because you get 100.00 - 200.00 a fight and they can break my face for that much, that's the equivilent of a grand over here... lol.

You get paid £15 to do 5x3 mins with Elbows? I can beat that, hows about i pay you £20 to do 3x2 mins without elbows ;)
When you and Safa fight next i expect to see a more technical fight between you both. As for title? Well you never know!
title fight with safa what about me lol u gotta beat me first!

chefkicker 05-06-2008, 00:38 Good show mate, had a good night, I like the new venue. Well done to Yousif who fought a bigger lad after his fight got called off. Thought the pair of them put on a great demo:thumbsup:
Yousifs fight got called off because his opponent (a 28 year old instructor) lost his bottle!!!
He was playing for time and not bothering to get changed and then moaned about the gloves. In the end Steve Mann (yousifs opponent) pulled out some PU (yes PU not leather) Blitz Boxing Gloves and insisted that both fight in them :loopy:
After a lot of argument, we said wed take the fight in whatever (even bare knuckles if need be :hihi:)
Steve mann took off his handwraps and said i "psyched him out" and then left the venue.
He even had the cheek to ask for travelling expenses
I'm just wondering when and where the next kickboxing event is involving SDF?
please write back to me as soon as possible
thank you
