well, it looks increasingly likely that swfc are going to be in the play offs for the first time in thier history. my question is do you agree or disagree with the formula???.

imho i think they are just an end of season fundraiser for the clubs involved. whatever happened to the old 3 up 3 down scenario????. its not fair when a team who finishes 3rd and x amount of points in front of 6th place misses out because of the result of one or two games.

i said it the other season with the blades when wolves went up and i will say it again this season if swfc go up without finishing 3rd. the best way to resolve this is to play the 3rd from bottom of the higher division. maybe if they changed to this way then the teams which triumph might actually stay up for a change.

I'm against the current system. I'd like to see 3rd place have a two leg home and away match with third bottom of the league for the position in the higher division.

They did this when the play-offs first came into being circa 1988 but police put up huge objections, trouble mainly with the club at the bottom.

If the play offs were not taking place this season, in the Championship only Sunderland, Wigan and Ipswich would currently be contesting anything. The play offs mean anyone down to 11th place, realistically, still has something to play for with 7/8 games left.

In Division 1, Hull and Luton are as good as promoted and again, realistically, Wednesday will finish 4th and in which case would miss out.

One point from your original post, the clubs involved in the play offs do not actually make that much money, or at least as much as you would think.

The gate receipts from the play offs - after VAT and expenses - for ALL divsions are actually pooled, with 40% going to 12 competing clubs, 20% going to the Football League, and the other 40% going to the remaining 60 clubs. Additionally, the club that actually gets promoted from each division also has to pay a retainer to the clubs that did not get promoted. Therefore, the clubs do make some money from the play offs but not as much as you would think. The actual money is made from playing a division higher, particularly the Premiership.

Yeah I'm for the play offs; although sometimes its unfair when someone finishes sixth and gets promoted and the person in third loses out...but hey thats the system.

Come on Reading!
