Hi there,
Does anyone know much about buying mp3/cd players for a car? What brands are good for sound quality? Have budget of around 150 pounds and have seen a Pioneer DEH-P5700MP within budget http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3877
Any ideas whether this is a good deal and any other options?
Thanks for the help

I'd personally go for a Kenwood.
The CD player I bought back in 1997 had superb sound quality and lasted me seven years and six re-fits into subsequent cars without any mechanical problems whatsoever.
However, Pioneer would be my second choice. Their home hi-fis and DVD writers have again proven very reliable.
www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk is a bit cheaper.
I want one too.
Does it matter what you get ... I'm wondering about how it all connects up ...
I drive a Ford Fiesta.

I think Halfords on Queens Road are selling Kenwood MP3/cd players half price at just under £100.
Don't let Halfords over-charge you for fitting!! It's dead easy to do yourself..
I have a Kenwood MP3 player which is quite nice, but I've had alot of problems with it not reading CD's.. But a CD Player cleaner (CD with tiny brushes on it, that cleans the lenses whilst it spins) seems to sort it.
Also, had alot of problems with my old kenwood MP3 CD player.. It only read data CD's but not normal audio CD's, just constantly jumped, but the data CD's with all my MP3's on worked fine! Weird :?

I dunno about sound quality and all that, but I've got an MP3 player in my car, it's good enough for me, I got it from Maplins at Hillsborough for about £70. The techy-type assistant said his manager had got one, that's good enough for me....? It plays audio and data cd's and doesn't ever jump.
Also, I saw Charlie Browns (yeah, yeah, I know, not an ideal place to buy audio equipment from!) had got one, can't remember the make/model but it was something I recognised, and that was only about £70 too.
I don't think this'll help you, but for anyone else thinking of buying one, I'd reccommend it, they're excellent. I get 5 albums on one cd!
I've tried fitting an old car cassette-player/tuner in to my car and the bit that plugs in (from the car) doesn't fit the unit.
If I buy a new unit, how do I fit it?
Do I need some kind of adapter or do I have to start cutting wires etc ...
EDIT: Do I need one of these: http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product.asp?product=19920

You need an adaptor. The web link you provided sounds about right. Halfords have it in for a few quid cheaper:

Again, no picture! Halfords will quickly replace or refund you if you buy the wrong one - they package them up in re-sealable boxes.
