I have just heard today that niche owners have bought roxys. Does any1 know if this is true?

yes it is true thay got it some time ago and are going to re open it as roxys

so are you saying that fat women are weird or is it just the dancing round the handbag routine ?

I thought that building was going to be pulled down. Can't believe that it's now going to stay as an ugly boil that drags people's attention to it as soon as they come out of the train station.

no i didnt meen to offence by that...i just meen what it use to be like, and niche buying it. Should turn it into another speed garage venue! :clap:

I think the Police cut Niche a bit of slack because its out of the way a bit - but I dont think a place in the city centre would keep its license for for too long if it had the amount of bother Niche has had over the years.

But as Andy say - considering the amount of cash thats being spent doing up the "gateway" to Sheffield - it amazing Roxy's is being allowed to stay up & not getting demolished.

(They must have being doing serious amounts of drugs in the 70s to even think that monstrosity was a suitable buidling for the city centre...)

Although i admit - the architechts were probbaly on some mad stuff - - I quite like the NCPM - at least its different - unlike most of the boring all-look-the-same buildings everywhere. Better to get a love/hate reaction than just a not-notice reaction!

But nobody did notice, that's why it closed :)

The NCPM didn't close due to the strange architecture, it was because the visitor attraction was awful! (Although Mojos bar wasn't bad!).

The ex-NCPM is a unique building and I for one am glad it's in sheffield.

Roxy's looks like a huge public toilet, with two entrances, Male and Female. I would rather sever off my arm than go to that place.

There's something about le ROXY that I just love. Dunno why. Its got as much charm as a big grotty white cube can get, I guess.

I suppose you COULD argue it was a breath-taking bit of late 1960's iconic design that was ahead of its time?..........then again......perhaps a weak argument to some. It was certainly a very modern building back in 1969 or thereabouts when it was built, and made everything else took totally grotty beside it. Sadly the reverse is now true.....

It is an eye sore..

I really dont know what good that will do to Sheffield.

As for it appearance they could always put that modern looking pannelling on the side so it doesnt look so 70s. I mean... White tiles... ewwww

Apart from that I say pull it down...

Being that it's such a plain design though it would be simple to clad it like Greg says and give it a modern appearance along with a decent canopy along the front or something.

Btw, who owns Niche now? Did Baxendale end up selling it?
