this is really doing my head in now....
if i click on a link from one page to another my browser takes an eternity ( if at all) to load the page up, if i go from window to window on my desktop it does it very quick its only on the net that it slows down.
ive tried rebooting, defrag, disconnecting then reconnecting, but its still the same, it all started on saturday night, i tried adaware, anti hijack and antivirus but nothing has worked,
im running a p4 2.8 756 ram and 512 meg broadband with plusnet, has anyone got any ideas please !!!!! :help:
What's your browser?
I've had this occasionally with IE6 and haven't worked out what it is. The only thing I do know is that it stops when I reboot....
So, what's your browser and what sites are involved?
Joe
ie6 browser and every site i try to get on, ive been trying to get on plusnet homepage for 10 mins now it even happens on here ????
That's bizarre....
The other time I had this was when I managed to get my browser hi-jacked by one of these things that diverts everything to some poxy portal page.
Are you seeing any unusual disc or status line activity?
Have you tried clearing your browsre cache? Both online and offline?

You could have any number of issues here:
- bad proxy
- ISP problems
- 3rd party dialler/malware
- poor line quality & packet drops
- Some other program using the bandwidth
Could also be technical issues with your ISP... I'd check your dialler settings.. run a spybot scan in safe mode and also try running a traceroute from your DOS command window.
eg: tracert www.google.com
This should point out any problems in your route with particularly high latency times.
Here's something for you to try pj66. Clear all your history and cookies in internet options:
Start>control panel>internet options. In the middle of the page select 'Delete Cookies' and ok that. Next select 'Delete Files'. A box will pop up that says 'Delete all offline content'. Place a check in this box and ok that. Now go to the bottom of the page and select 'Clear History' . OK that and close the window.
Reboot and try the internet again.
Is that any better?. If not go to Panda active scan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm) and do an online scan. Their scan has now been updated to scan for spyware as well as viruses.
It's also worth running theWindows Security Trojan scan (http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/).
browser cache cleared and no unusual activity only bb acting more like dial up,
the first click say to get on to google comes up straght away but the next click takes forever and its like that on all sites
ps links to other pages take as long to load as it takes you to fill up at an all you can eat for a fiver night

Who is your ISP?
I'm currently with Tiscali and they've been slow (or non-existent) on occasions over the last few days, even to the extent of me giving up for an hour, here and there.
Edit: Sorry, I've just re-read and seen that you've named plusnet.
It is most likely an ISP/BT bandwidth problem. (See Vidster below)
I'm faster than the speed of light just now!

Yep my brother has had the same problem at times. I wonder if it is a problem on BT's end like it was last month with mine :?.
Mine would really slow down and then go off completely!
must have been a problem at plusnets end it seems to have cleared up
 thanks for the help guys
