View Full Version : Shoplifter? On Moor Saturday Afternoon
I was walking by Home Bargains, at the bottom of the Moor about 2pm on Saturday afternoon. A large crowd had gathered to watch a security guard and a Pc sitting on a fellow who was "f'ing and blinding".
This lasted quite a long time, and when he was eventually hauled to his feet the crowd applauded. As he was taken to the cop car he seemed to start spouting something that made the cops whisk him even faster.
Anybody know what the incident was all about?
Kristian 21-03-2005, 15:44 That's appalling! Fancy shoplifting from Home Bargains, Debenhams is only just up the road! :hihi: :hihi:

He'll have left his car on a meter for 3 minutes too long.;)
Seriously though, he'll probably have nicked a quid's worth from some 'multi-million pound a day profit' shop and the PC will have been there within seconds..........whilst some old dear who's had her £7000 car nicked will be waiting several days for response. :loopy:
Oooh what cynics you are.
The fellow was shouting all sorts of foul language at a crowd that was partly composed of young 'uns.
As he was being led away it seemed like racist crap he was spouting too.
No sympathy from me!
ladyovmanor 21-03-2005, 16:25 something similar was happening around there on fri dinner time was in a rush so did not see much
matsalleh 21-03-2005, 16:40 Of course now the poor little scrote will be traumatised by the applause he received. Best send him to the Bahamas for a couple of months to recuperate.
We had shoplifters in at my place of work today,(Makro),,they were a middle aged couple who stuffed their bags full of shaving blades and ciggies,,,they were old enough to know better,,,,and as per usual, the bloke legged it when they were caught and he left the woman to be escorted away by the police,,,,,i would have thought that being dragged away by the police would be enough of a deterrent, but it takes allsorts doesnt it!

Always nice to see a well-reasoned argument rather than someone who just throws personal insults! Well done, you must be very proud of yourself to think that one up!

Well yeah but if someones car has been nicked then it's already gone - if a security guard has hold of a thief then there's somewhere there to actually arrest. That doesn't excuse them for taking a few days but it explains why they make an effort to get there quicker.

This quote from Cutglass.......
"it's a good job you were up early yourself to spot 'em trying to nick your bike!
Thankfully you stopped 'em, all i can say is you must have a fearsome "look" about you, enough to stop 'em challenging you.
My sister and brother-in-law weren't so lucky, they live on Stradbroke, they saw a group of scum breaking into their car, when they went out they were threatened, luckily enough my brother-in-law realised that he couldn't take 'em all on and went back inside the house, he was on the fone to the police describing exactly who they were and what they were doing to his car, but the coppers didn't turn up for 3 hours. All the while, the scum outside were jeering and threatening 'em, but of course they were never caught and their car was found burnt out.
And yes, Chav's does fit their description, tracksuits, baseball caps and hoody's."

is what I'm getting at.;)
fnkysknky 21-03-2005, 18:44 I'll let you off then :hihi:
Seriously though I wasn't sticking up for the coppers as they are more often than not a useless shower of **** IMHO ;)

Alright then, what do u mean by this. The previous post commented, that the store that had possibly been robbed could easily afford to loose a few quid. Multi million was mentioned. tThere was also comparison that some old dears car costing a few grand wouldn't get a response from the authorities!! I was just commenting bluntly on that generalisation!!! Its wrong to steal, is it not? and the distinction between value shouldn't come in to it. You know what? I'm not proud. Why should I be? I just got sick of reading topics that had been started seriously and then they descend into stupidity. Maybe I should have just written this instead.

Yes you should have done that, if that's what you meant! I find throwing around one line personal insults is often not the best way to get your point across!

i got some cotton wool buds do you think that will do the trick:)
why is it always that the police get the stick on some of the forums ? They can only do the job that they have time for and are in a position to respond. why not praise them for some of the work they do ie. the killers of those girls in Nottingham were arrested tried and sentenced it was those useless (as some of you will like to call them) police who did the work but i dont suppose you take that into consideration.

I personally think the police do a sterling job, but like any other public body, they're going to come in for criticism! Are you connected to the police force by any chance?

You dont have to connected to an organization to have respect and consideration for the difficulties of their job. The only reason there seems to be a lot crime and yoboism is that we let it happen and ignore it unless it involves us personally.
There are bad children but they are product of bad parents who unfortunately appear to be the products of the sixties when free expression was the thing. As you sow so shall ye reap.

Wouldn't those 'children' be at least 36 by now?

Yes, it's wrong to steal ANYTHING...obviously!!!
Distinction between value? Bank robbers...10 years, shoplifters 100 hours community service. That's a fact, NOT my opinion!!!
Police response times for shoplifting? Within minutes!
Police response times for car theft in progress? Ask people who it has effected!!
Do I respect the police? YES, 100%.
Do I respect the way the police are run? NO CHANCE.
And counting the serious postings on this thread only, it would be about three posts long. Counting the serious posts throughout this forum only = dull and mediocre forum (obviously the way you want it to be, but not the majority).
BoroughGal 22-03-2005, 16:51 The city centre has a specialist shoplifting squad that are not tied up with other everyday incidents, and are therefore free to deal with every shoplifting case quickly, as and when they're phoned in.
Plus, if there is a shoplifter detained at a shop, then they have an offender that may possibly hurt staff or members of the public, or escape. Police need to attend there quickly to secure a conviction.
In the case of the old lady, the police absolutely DO take this sort of thing seriously, but there is a limited amount of resourses, and if, say, a robbery with offenders nearby, a rape, or an assault is happening at the same time, then things have to be prioritised. The lady, whilst distressed, is safe enough with the offenders out of the way (yes, yes, I know that she still deserves a quick response, but officers cannot be everywhere). But saying that, an elderly lady that has had money taken by a bogus official or by means of a distraction burglary comes high on the list of priorities.
Don't be so harsh on people who are trying to do a good job.
Unless I've missed a post, then we don't know whether the person who was apprehended was a shoplifter or a mugger or what do we?
So the discussion about him being arrested in favour police tracking down other criminals is a generalisation.
Don't get me wrong, the incidence of crime versus the lack of police available to deal with it is a real concern. The police, as far as I know, have to achieve 'targets' which means some of their time has to be focused on quick results as opposed to spending a huge amount of time on crimes that are difficult to resolve.
That said, unless people are prepared to pay more taxes to pay for more police (nurses, teachers etc) then you can't expect anything else really can you? We can only get out what we put in.
So, if we are all good citizens (which of course we are here on the forum)! then we should be doing everything we can to support police by reporting crime, ensuring we don't contribute (pay our car tax etc) and encourage our own children to not break the law by setting a good example. Easy peasy!
If I was a police officer I would be reluctant to make an arrest.
a 10 minuet arrest pobably means two hours paper work. When you are filling informs then you are not out on the streets.
The old soldier outlook, While you are marching your not fighting.
