Hello, was just wondering if anyone knows the following information about the Virgin Gym as the Join Up section on their website isn't working:
1. How much does it cost to join/per month, do I need to join to go to classes, and how much are classes?
2. Is it easy to get to from the city centre, I know its quite a way out but is there a tram/bus that goes there fairly directly?
3. If you go do you recommend it?
Thank you!

I used to be a member at the one in Manchester before I moved to Sheffield. It didn't used to have a joining-fee and indeed flaunted the fact. However, they've now abandoned that sensible idea and created a £30 "activation" fee. Activate my ***e!
I'd definitely recommend Virgin though- it's worth the fee for the spa facilities alone.
I'm not sure what the current price / joining fee is - its somewhere around £42 a month but its definitely worth it. I've been a member of Greens, Living well and Esporta and Virgin is by far the best all round.
Its really huge, the staff are nice, the spa is brilliant and theres tonnes of classes. Its fairly easy to get to from the city centre - any buses that go down Abbeydale road or Chesterfield road would get you there.. or its about 20mins walk.
Thanks for the information. But £42 :o Thats more than a gym back home down south and they were really expensive! I'm a poor student and am looking for something like pilates classes to go to rather than the actual gym. I was thinking of The Cage as prices there were reasonable but they're closing down so thats out. S1 the 'student' gym is also far too expensive and a bit far away, I might as well just walk there and back for the exercise.

Join ponds forge then- they do classes and the off peak is only 19.99 per month.
