Oh No! Its back! Walking man! Horrible statue right outside the wonderful Winter gardens. Who decided to put this here? Please say this is not going to be a permanent fixture.
Please stroll on by, QUICKLY!

Yay!

I missed that statue.

I think they should move the big silver statue from outside the Childrens hospital into town too.

I love statues and pieces of art. I dont think Sheffield has enough of them.

Anything tactile of varying shapes, sizes and materials..... the more the merrier!!! (and vandal proof of course)

Question: does anyone have a picture of the walking man Ive not seen it. CHEERS x

I wonder how many fag ends Walking Man had stuffed in his gob over the years as he stood walking outside the old egg box?

Praise be!!! I'm probably the only one who missed having Walking Man about. I've always liked the little fella.

He's been around for ages, in the little garden at the side of the Millennium Gallery ... hiding from all those yobs forcing him to inhale their half smoked fag ends :O

What a nice surprise to see him back!

Sheffield is sadly all to devoid of much sculpture and art - even the Crimea memorial in the BT has been swapped for a pre-cast concrete fountain! Shame on them!!!

I have come to the conclusion that Sheffield deserves the crap art it gets!

Thanks for that link; the link within it was very interesting too! I'd often wondered what it was made of!

Well, he ain't Michealangelo's David, but he's a darn sight more interesting and attractive than the red turd on the piazza.

Thanks nick2. I never realised how much public art was on display in Sheffield. Going to get exploring soon.

I've never ventured near the winter gardens so have never seen the statues however I don't find the walking man offensive?

Might freak you out a little if you were someone like me who hasn't seen it before and you bumped into it at night! Lol!

Ooooh, he reminds me of when I was a kid, standing outside th egg box whilst me mum went inside to pay rent!

I used to paddle in the 'water' in the little pool outside it too....

No wonder i'm always ill lol

Is that other statue still up on the side of the old Co-Op on Snig Hill? across from Argos?

He used to scare me a bit, because someone told me there was a real man inside and they did the cast around him

There is some really nice bits and pieces around sheffield, local sculptors have done a few pieces out this side of town (North I think lol)

It just seems to be in the centre of town they go slightly wrong..i.e big red boiler, and that 'mess' at the bottom of the Moor, once a fountain with like, big concrete whales tails sticking out?
