My staffie Jess has got really sore paws, her old owner who is a friend of ours came to take her for a run tonight as he's trying to get fit so goes biking regular and has decided to take Jess with him. She was licking her paw really badly and i turned the light on to see blood, i've had a look at her paws and they seem really sore, not like shes stood on something but like when we have a blister and we pick (or is that just me been a greb :gag:) and it becomes smooth skin.

Does any of this actually make sense lol?? I put a bit of camamile (sp?) lotion on them and shes as happy as anything now, just been for a run in the garden so isn't in pain. What i want to know is, is this because she isn't used to running on concrete? When i take her out i take her to run on a grass field.

Aww poor old Jess, yes it is because she isn't used to running on concrete, a dog has really soft pads to start with they harden up as he/she is walked, its best to take road walks gradually.
Hope Jess is feeling better soon :)

I echo what Moonbird has said its obviously been too much for her. Sudocrem and bathing in some warm salt water is soorthing if you need to use it, but take things a bit slower from now on.;)

Awww i feel so mean now :( she never usually goes on concrete, would rather walk on grass but i'll have to force her, she hasn't wanted to go for a walk today which is unlike her, going to try again later but not push her.

hi, staffies are really prone to excesive licking of the paws for some strange reason, everyone that i know who has has the same problem,,,mine tends to do it more when she has been outside in damp weather i think it might be something to do with salt, i bathe and apply sudocrem which usually does the trick

Ive heard that about staffs too. Dobes get fixated on one paw and lick excessively too if they can get away with it
Hope Jess is recovered from her exertions now
