Does anybody have first hand knowledge and can recommend a reliable airport taxi service that will run us to Manchester??

Would prefer to choose one on a recommendation than just picking one at random.

give me a minute, I used to get a cab once a week to an early morning Monday flight. I'll just check the phone and remind me of the company name (I got the same driver for 6 months which was nice, and it was a well maintained merc). Cost was £40 each way and he'd pick up as well.

train is a good option as Steve21 said. I used it a month ago, cheaper than that actually as we went after the business rush in the morning. I think it was £22 each way travelling mid day and evening.

The taxi involves less walking at the airport as it drops you off at the terminal, and if you don't fancy taking your luggage on the train it's the more convenient option.

Just a point of interest Cyclone, Ace of cars don't exist anymore, they have been bought up and are a part of RCA.
As a specialist airport transfer serveice I found First class travel to be spot on.
1st class-travel:, 0114 2216517 just in case anybody else needs the same service from a company that is not a taxi firm but dedicated airport specialist.

it wasn't Ace of Cars though, it was Ace Cars, and the yellow pages is still listing them on the same number I have. They only seemed to be a small company and specialised in airport and special event runs. They aren't actually listed under taxi in the yellow pages, it's the Car Hire - Chauffeur Driven category.

The number you mentioned 76 77 78 was a part of Ace that I refer to along with 73 74 75 variation or indeed backwards of 75 74 73, I accept, after the sale of the company the original owners may have found a technical loop hole to keep that variant of the number as a Chauffeur service that you refer to. I wasn't aware of Ace cars still continuing in that guise, come to think of it the original owner still has the wedding car showrooms just off Bramal Lane on Alderson Road with mercs and old rollers displayed in the window. That might be the Ace link, you are right Cyclone, the taxi company however is no longer around.
