Tried to get some info on this yesterday but to no avail.

Road was closed from the Reservoir onwards (towards Manc.) from at least 3.45pm until 5.40pm.

Unfortunately I would presume given the closure and time involved that there was a fatality.

unless they are charged with causing death by dangerous driving, as if it's as clear cut as has been made out they should be.

My girlfriend was one of the first cars on the scene. Apparently the 3 girls were indeed trying a 3 point turn, the bike came over the brow of a hill and hit them. The biker was some 40 metres away from his bike on the ground in a heap, although she thought he was talking to another person who had stopped. As for the girls. Apparently all they couldnt speak and were very shook up. I'm pretty sure it;s illegal to do 3 point turns on A roads isnt it ?? If so then the driver may well be in trouble. My girlfriend left the scene quickly in order to phone an amubulance from the pub as no-one's mobile had any signal. Cant seem to see anything in the news about it though.

I can't see anything in the highway code about U-Turns/3 point turns being illegal, except when indicated by Signage.

To those who are critical about penalties...

Dangerous driving normally includes an immediate ban from driving (it's obligatory according to the highway code), although in exceptional circumstances there may not be a ban (although I don't know what would count as exception) and between 3-11 points may be given, as well as an UNLIMITED fine, and imprisonment of 2 years.

Death by Dangerous Driving carries a 10 year imprisonment, unlimited fine, and an obligatory minimum two year driving ban.

Why on earth did the girls attempt a three point turn on the Snake Pass?

Did they miss their turning at Manchester?

:loopy:

they may well not be illegal, but it's certainly dangerous driving to perform one at a point where an oncoming vehicle won't see you with plenty of time to slow down.

I know. If I put across in my post that it meant a 3 point was 'OK' in that sort of situation.. then I apologise! I was just correcting the person who commented that a 3 point was illegal on an 'A' class road.
