THE CIRCLE [/B]is a new classy contemporary town centre bar in Sheffield close to the new Carling Academy. The Circle is in the heart of the town centre and very close to the local Theatre’s, Odeon Cinema and the University. We have an extensive selection of Draught beers, lagers, Bottle beers, Wines & Spirits. We also have exclusive offers on drinks throughout the week and weekend. The Circle is an excellent pre bar due to the location and friendly atmosphere staying open till late 7 days a week. Also with ongoing new developments we will be opening the Upper Circle very soon. We are the only bar in the city centre with Crown Brewery Ales. Come on down and experience the warm invigorating ambiance of the CIRCLE

Real beer or smoothflow?

According to Mr Hugetype's plug, "We are the only bar in the city centre with Crown Brewery Ales." so it sounds like they do have real ale!

Yes this is the old D and R Bar and the Ground Floor bar was only open on Friday the 4th April 2008.
The new bar has been completely refurbished on both Ground and 1st floor and coming soon is the wine bar and Bistro on the first floor so watch this space.

Yes its opposite the old Mulberry Tavern and the planning permission is almost through for the illuminated signage. On the left-hand side just before the bottom of the ramp to the Carling Academy.

Cider mmm all the products are good as its the latest state of the art chilling system no flash coolers as all the beer lines are cooled to the pumps and there is a good range of Real Ale. We have to develop this bar as we have had all on with the new Licence application for Live music dancing etc so keep your eye on this bar over the next few Months

By 'no atmosphere' do you mean no racket purporting to be 'music' raping one's ears, played so loud you have to scream to be heard?

Give me an R.A. pub any day.

Normally I'd agree, but loud music and real ale shouldn't be mutually exclusive, especially if the venue is promoting itself as a "pre-club" bar. It's not to my tastes, but it clearly is to younger people, so if we want real ale to flourish we need to get the kids interested in it rather than the fizzy pop they're used to having marketed at them! Good luck to The Circle!

Well not everyone is pleased but this is not a pub that just has real Ale we are trying to cater for every ones tastes and you never know till you try it. And if we all liked the same music and level of noise god that would be a boring world.

Thank you. This is not a fizzy Pop get um drunk venue we are trying to promote Sensible drinking and sensible people its about time Sheffield had a Bar everyone can feel safe and at home.

It does operate a no Hat policy and the door staff will not let anyone in that is not conducting them selves properly or in appropriately dressed !!!

Would you say the Circle bar is to have a certain 'music policy' at all, ie a leaning towards one specific genre?

The music at the Inner Circle on the Ground floor is Just a whole variety to cater for all tastes and for now and its just back ground music as we don't want everyone to scream to be herd. We will be having live entertainment when we open the Upper Circle in about 6 weeks and again it will be varied possibly with theme nights but again its in its infancy. We are definitely stearing away from pure punk. Rock nights will be featured in theme nights and in the back ground as we have just received the entire catalogue of Led Zeppelin think that one will be coming soon

Can I just ask which date and time did you officially open to the public? The first mention of you as Circle bar is in this thread and I gather you had already opened at the time of the first posting here?

I own the Dove and Rainbow, the original one in Hartshead. Had nothing to do with the DnR bar, that was the previous owner John who left here to open that place......

Sorry I thought from your post you had opened already. Are you planning to do food? Interested in your post about maybe putting on rock events upstairs though.....

I popped in last night and it's a nice place - basically a bar furnished and decorated in a contempory style that had decent beer. It has background music, with the music videos playing on a small screen built into the Stella taps! It was a very relaxed atmosphere last night, however I imagine it will be livelier on a weekend.

You do not have to hope. We also have other outlets and its our policy for quality not quantity. The pipes are cleaned every week with out fail to provide the best quality for consumption. If you have any doubt call in our nearest outlet the Pitsmoor hotel which is the only Pub on the brewerys list that maintains a 100% record for its pipe cleaning which shows up on their system through the brewline data so its totally independant. There are no real ales at the pitsmoor but I would be interested if you can find a better drink if you do let me know.

Thanks for your interest look forward to seeing you there

Good news that the old DNR/101/Bar Viva premises is being reopened with a new look.

BTW, I hope there won't be any confusion between the Circle Bar and the new Circle Building, which is just off West Street near Bungalows and Bears, and houses several Sheffield Voluntary Action services, such as the SHOUT Centre. You will be relieved to know that at present, at least, it has no bar, club or cafe on the premises and there is no intention to create one there!:D

Went in last Friday. Dan and Jen are a very nice couple and really freindly.

The two cask ales were in tip top condition and they have plans to put on more if they sell more so as they say - use it or lose it!

If you're a city centre imbiber then do patronise this bar. It makes such a change to have a couple of people with vision and patience wanting to make a nice place for people to socialise.

Take a tip from me - try the real ale!
