Isn't it funny how any Wednesday fan mentions the Boxing Day Massacre or FA Cup Semi-final there accused of living in the past. The Blades bring up the fact that we've not done the double since 1914 and not beaten em at the Lane since 1960 summat. Both considerably further further in the past :loopy:

Now who's living in the past?

If you want to live in the past....

How many trophies have they won in your lifetime?

How many times have they played in a final in your lifetime?

How many times have they topped the Premiership in your lifetime?

How many times have they played in Europe in your lifetime?

How many times have they had a starting 11 made up of internationals in your lifetime?

How many times have you seen nearly 50,000 at the lane in your lifetime?

Don't be silly Mr Sidebottom. They've won quite a few of their real cup finals, against us.

A few league wins against Wednesday is clearly far more of an achievement than, er, actually achieving something.

This sort of argument would go better if the Owls fans were not, simultaneously, laughing at the Blades for claiming that things like league position were more important than the two Derby results. Which is it?

Are the Derby results the be-all and end-all? If so, your abject failure to commit a double in 94 years is valid comment. You gain bragging rights for this season, but we still have that Indian sign over you.

Are they not? If not, our losing one and drawing the other matters not a whit, cos we're higher than you in the table.

We have more doubles against them than we have against any other club? Or more doubles than any other club has against them?

Not that it's much consolation when they've taken 4pts from 6 this season, but oh well. :D

You think that's bad?

I understand the last time we did the double over Wolves, was when the Owls got their talons in, when they were all on board Noah's Ark.

how many years has it been since swillsborough have had more than a 30-odd thousand capacity? Unless you are secretly planning on cramming fans in at 1.5 backsides per seat....

More against them than we have against any other club. Should have made it clearer.

Not much consolation as you say, but I'm juuuuust holding on to that straw ........

It's irrelevant.

The whole point of my post was that the OP was pointing out that since the Owls last did the double, United have done it X many times.

Most of these weren't even in his lifetime.

I have mearly pointed out that if we wanted to go back and start dragging up the past, here is some of what we could bring up.

I'm not arguing about what we could do now at Hillsborough, or Badly Down Trodden Bumhole Lame, I was responding to a pathetic attempt to drag up history for one upmanship.

It'll be a long time before Wednesday get as good a chance to either do a Sheffield double, or even win at the Lane again. United this season have been for the most part dreadful, as witnessed by the pathetic showing on that mudbath across the city in January.

The lack of pace in United's side should/will be addressed by KB in the summer (if he's still there), so the big pace advantage SW had on Tuesday shouldn't be as apparent next time out.

Three very poor goals, and one absolute belter - the way the away end went totally silent when Beattie scored was almost worth living through the Robson era! And we have to be thankful that the Owls bottled it when it mattered :)

Good game though, much better than many at the Lane in recent years, when Wednesday usually just come to ruin the game with a dull defend at all costs display (not that i'm slightly biased :) )

Shame about the idiots on both sides causing trouble, but it's not unexpected, and it was disappointing to see the police take so long to react.
