Hi Tina,

I would also *really* like to find out where to get a proper therapeutic massage.

I picked up a flyer from Blue Moon a while ago where a woman was advertising that she did them, but when I called her she said that she came round to your house to do it, and I didn't really want that. But if you wouldn't mind that it might be worth popping into Blue Moon to see if she has left any more there. Sorry I can't remember her name though.

Otherwise, does anyone have any more info of other individuals / organisations that does them?

Also I've heard that you can get them done for a discount price at Sheffield College if you have it done by someone training to be a masseuse. Might consider that??

You know, I read that before you deleted it. I was wondering where you trained. I got busy and left, then came back to find it had gone. So if you are really ligit then why don't you redeam yourself and explain how qualified you are. Or are you??
Years ago I was a Beauty and Massage Therapist in Sheffield. I don't like it when people give the profession a bad name.

thanks everyone.

jamie - write what you want, i do! what were the other things on the course to promote health and vitality?

halevan - my friend got some 'medicine' from there for back pain and said it did nothing, not even a placebo effect.

purple pippa - yes i've seen some interesting ads in the blue moon cafe for relaxing day retreats and the like, its just getting a reccommendation as their cork board is so full!

Phanerothyme - thanks, that sounds like a very likely option. have you been yourself?

Occasionally there are Alternative/Holistic Therapy "Fairs" held in and around Sheffield. The last one was a few months ago and it was held at the Don Valley Stadium. There's usually masseuses, shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy and reiki practitioners etc etc who have stalls there. They'll give you a demo for a small fee. I find this is a good way of finding someone who you might wish to start seeing on a regular basis. I had a shiatsu massage from one lady and it was soooo relaxing. Unfortunately she was based in Barnsley which was a bit too far away. I think I might still have some leaflets that I picked up though. I could dig them out tonight if you're still looking?
However, I realise that if you want to start soon then this isn't much help until there's another fair. I haven't heard of anymore fairs in this area but if I do would you like me to let you know?

Hi
I've been having massage treatment for a couple of months. I've been suffering from tension headaches for some months and after lots of wasted time at doctors surgeries (one of whom prescribed anti-depressants which I strongly rejected) someone recommended this place to me.
Dronfield Natural Health Clinic
24 High St
Dronfield
01246 411067

Treatment has helped and I find it very relaxing, especially the head massage. My treatment is upper body, back, shoulders, head, neck, face etc. Costs £20 for 50 minute session.
Well worth it.

Regards

I used to be self employed and my business was for ladies only.
Too many problems with massaging men. Sorry guys, there are the few out there that ruin it and make it appear sleazy. I did massage, aromatherapy and reflexology and I felt I was in a respectable profession.

I am qualified in Swedish massage but do not particularly like doing it, just my choice, prefer the healing. Also qualified in Acupressure and various other therapies. I find if you advertise any kind of therapy you always get some nutter asking if you do 'extras', I have even had this when advertising psychic readings.I have always been very careful on how I word any advertising, posters, business cards etc. It is not the industry itself just how certain dirty minded people perceive it.

We have two masseuses that come to our office. One does a realy good back and shoulder massage, the other does Indian head massage and reflexology.

I have all 3 :)

We also have someone who does beauty treatments like eyebrow plucking and manecures.

Have you tried 'Heavenly Body' on Abbeydale Rd, Millhouses (0114 2620475)?

I've been a couple of times and they do a good range - Swedish massage designed to ease tension etc and also Power massage - two therapists (ideal for sports injuries).

I know an alternative therapist who does a great aromatherapy massage at Meersbrook.
PM me if you want details please.
She's accredited, experienced, professional, and takes around an hour on average. She normally does a one hour assessment first to ask about general health etc.

As massage is often thought of as an 'alternative health' sort of thing there is a place on Abbeydale Road on the left as you come away from town about 200 yards before the old Abbeydale picture palace. I would imagine they would have info on massage treatments.

I am a fully trained massage therapist and have been for 5 years. Trained at Castle College and have worked in sports massage also for the Rugby Club at Doni. Although that has lapsed now as it was too far for me to travel.

I have found it very difficult to find a decent therapist I did try Virgin Active Gym but they are extortionate!!!

Also visited Ragdale Hall for a spa weekend and they were really crap.... too namby pamby for me.....

A decent deep massage is really hard to find!!!!

The benefits to massage are emmense. Relaxation, extraction of toxins. Fat breakdown. Increase metabolism the list is endless so when we actually find a good one it worth visiting on a regular basis.

Prefer to find one around Beauchief/South Sheff. :D

A lady called Christine does massages at The Fitness Club in town.

I'd say try the yellow pages but me and my boyfriend had a rather bad experience! My bf wanted to treat me and him to a massage last summer so rang a number in the yellow pages. He presumed to explain to the guy on the phone that both of us wanted to come in, and didn't mind it being done seperately or together. At this point the guy butts in and says "sorry sir, what exactly are you looking for?" and my bf says "a massage". The guy replies "yeah, see the thing is we mainly deal in sex"...

:hihi: :hihi:

I know a lass who does good sports massages. She does part-time at the alternative therapy place on abbeydale rd (already mentioned).

Apparently what they got was very deep and very painful therapy...

Hello

I do all types of massage and I live in Sheffield. My speciality is in making my treatments enjoyable as well as beneficial. So if you want a deep massage that's what you'll get. And if you want a gentle treatment I can do that too. I'm qualified and insured.

I'm mobile so I can come to your home or I use rooms at the Airy Fairy on London Road, or the Bohemian on Chesterfield Road. I've done quite a few fairs too. I'm holding a small event at the Bohemian on Sunday 10th December, so if you want to meet me or would like to book yourself in for a short treatment to try me out you can. Prices are £8 for 15 minutes. My usual prices are £20 for 30 minutes, £30 for an hour and £40 for 90 minutes.

Here's my web:

http://www.theandreatouch.com

I hope to see some of you face to face!

In my experience there are many types of massage, and many different establishments offering massage. I think it obviously depends on what type of massage you want as to where you will look.

There is obviously the "other" kind of massage available in the shady part of town.

There are pleasant soothing massages generally available from beauty salons.

There are theraputic massages (which are not generally so soothing!) available from Complimentary Medicine or Natural Health Centres.

At Greenways Natural Health Centre ( 0114 2360890) there are a number of highly qualified, insured, and very experienced therapists offering many different types of massage.

Hi, I'm at Sheffield College. Yes you can book for massage there and it is really cheap. For £6 you can get either a Swedish Full Body Massage, Indian Head Massage or Reflexology treatment. We have recently started practising Aromatherapy massage where we mix oils to suit the individual. I don't have an exact price for that yet but it will be less than £10. I can recommend all the girls on the Holistic Therapies course. We all have a professional attitude and enjoy our work.

Hi everyone. I'm training at the moment in Holist Therapeutic Massage (qualify in July) I amways looking for volunteers to receive my massage as I need to do a comprehensive journal of at least 40 hours of practice. There is no charge for my service (only if the treatment is carried our in a rented therapy room I will ask you to pay for the rent cost, usually £5-£10 depending where it is ) I usually carry out the massage in my own living room which isn't ideal but as I'm only training iot's the only way at the moment. I am very professional and will make you as comfortable and relaxed as possible. My service is IN NO WAY OF A SEXUAL NATURE and isn't a beauty salon massage. If anyone is interested please get in touch to ask any further questions or to make an appointment. Everyones welcome.
Thanks.
Erica.
