I have one of the older model PS2's, like many others I think the laser has packed in, does anyone know where I can get this fixed for a cheap price? I looked at Playtime Multimedia in town, £50 to get it replaced, but I would like something a little cheaper if possible.

P.S Town area would be great!

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but its generally a better option just to buy a new console, replacement parts for most electrical things are too costly, especially when you take into consideration the cost of someone fitting it

if I remember correctly the replacement lens section is about £35 on its own, so you could probably buy one and find somone who's really handy with a soldering iron and screwdriver :)

also you may find it doesnt even need replacing... look on the net, the older PS2 is prone to collecting dust, it may just need taking apart and giving a quick blow to get the dust off... also there are ways to slightly tweak the lens power, which will make it last a bit longer before it needs replaceing :)

Bin the busted PS2 and buy an Xbox :D

Better games all round, better online capabilities, not to mention the hard drive which means you don't have to buy loads of memory cards to save your games..

The smaller ones are just as bad. Its not the size thats the problem, its the button layout thats crap.

Check Ebay, you can get parts for the PS2 including the laser and other bits that fail.

We had a PS2 which was faulty and took it to PC Medics on Halifax Road they fixed a faulty loading tray which cost £20 i think. Check it out.
