How did Matthew Corbett understand what Sweep was saying?
I've always wondered about this for years.I mean,Sweep would say,"d d dddd dd dd dd dddd d d ddddd ddd dddd" and Matthew would reply,"Yes,we can go for a picnic Sweep":huh:
Can anyone on here talk Sweep language?:suspect::)

Although mute from birth, Sweep was actually one of the pioneers of the voice recognition software now used by Stephen Hawking. At the time of the Sooty show however, the speech synthesiser operated at such low frequencies that TV transmitters made what he was saying come out on people's home TVs as a strange distorted buzz. Corbett understood this perfectly in the TV studio, hence him being able to converse with Sweep.
Since then technology has advanced and Sweep now earns a living developing "singing computer" software in the style of such famous singers as Lulu, Shakin Stevens and Phil Oakey.
