SOLID BLADE 07-04-2008, 12:05 It's on a little 2 little moniter icons in the bottom right corner and when I download say song's and that it goe's up about 30kbps so a song that is say 10mb take's quite long my mum's would do it in a few second's but not mine it take's forever and it's spoiling my broadband expierence orbrey 07-04-2008, 12:22 If you're on ADSL rather than cable (ie getting broadband from a BT phone line) then you can run a speed test at http://www.speedtester.bt.com - this will show you the current line profile you're being assigned. Make sure you're not using any other programs that access the internet when you're doing this test as that will invalidate the result. If the line profile is significantly higher than about 500kb/s then your slowdown is being caused by your ISP, probably because you've downloaded more than your monthly allowance. If it's around 500kb/s it's likely that you're a long way from the phone exchange and as such won't be able to get any faster downloads as your line is not of sufficient quality to support it. If it's below 500kb/s then there's probably a line fault that's caused your profile to drop below what it should be, and this will need to be reported to your ISP to be fixed. That's pretty general info but should give you some idea as to what's going on, hope that helps. EDIT: Just seen your other thread and realised you've got sky - do you know if that's supplied via BT or if you're on sky's LLU service? If you're on LLU the above won't apply and you'll need to talk to sky themselves. adttony 20-03-2010, 16:50 I agree with sweety - you can do your own speed test however, download speeds can be throttled by your ISP so you may not get what your supposed to, you are also effected by the distance you are from the exchange and even the time of day. When I lived nre student flats, i found thet after uni they would all come home and nick music/movies and that it woould take me twice as long to "borrow" a film.. |
