Let's hope it's not true. It's an easy story to invent and difficult to disprove.

It reminds me of the story of a side that got a game abandoned after having 3 players sent off by getting another to feign injury.
I can't remember who it was though?

Just for the record Beattie's 3 goals in 8 minutes equaled Sharps total for the season.Quite an achievement when you consider Sharp cost £2m

yep also reminds me of a story my dad told me about players betting on the outcome of a match at ipswich. apparently some players did time for it.
i cant remember who that was either.

Since no such event has ever occurred, it's hard to see how you possibly could remember which team did it.

It has occured sheffield utd vs west brom, united had three players sent off(tracey, santos and one other who i cant remember?) then had two players taken off injured so game got called off. West brom brom were 3-0 up, in the end the result stood

The game that you describe is not the game that howeyz refers to. He specifically mentioned a team getting it abandoned deliberately.

We will probably never find out for sure its a sad state of affairs when highly paid footballers **** it up the wall on gambling.

That's one of the things that makes me highly doubt it was a Premiership - or even Championship - player, though. At that level, a £50,000 debt is not a major problem - considerably less than one year's earnings. Most players in the Premiership could clear it in a month.

How do you know it wasn't abandoned deliberately? Only the people involved can only really answer that truthfully

I can only assume that you are one of the blue lot and if so it is a little bit cheeky coming on the forum accusing a team of doing something with what has happened at swillsbro this season.
How many games called off this season?

The FA said so thats how.

Such rumours are slanderous too, some posters on here should think themselves lucky our board isn't the same one that is at Hillsborough, or they could end up with court cases themselves ;)

Item 1: the United squad, management and board of directors were all totally confused when the game was abandoned, and wondered what the hell the referee were up to.

Item 2: Within minutes, the United board had told the referee that they had no desire to see the game struck out, and would be happy with either the 3-0 defeat standing, or forfeiting the game by some arbitrary scoreline.

As a general rule, people who are trying to do something deliberately, know when they've succeeded and don't immediately try to reverse what they've done.

All my reply was to state that there was a game where 3 players were sent off and others injured and the game got abandoned.

At no point have i accused anybody of anything? What i said was the poster did not not know for sure himself if they got it abandoned or not, and that the club in question could only answer the question truthfully.

I think you all may have read Mr Warnock's autobiography and are looking at it through red tinted glasses

Yours was a follow on from a post claiming players feigned injury.

I have read it yes, but take nothing from as being gospel.

The FA cleared United of any wrong doing. For me that is satisfactory.

I thought this thread was about Billy Sharp's 'Gordon Watson dive' on Saturday. I didn't complain coz you did Wednesday a favour but Holloway wasn't too impressed :D

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/7334481.stm

The Foxes boss added: "Anybody have a look at that and tell me if I'm not right. There's total daylight when Billy Sharp decides to go down.

"He didn't go down because he was pulled, he decided to go down because he over ran the ball."

"Sort your life out Sharpie, you ain't on my Christmas list, you little turkey," said a fuming Holloway.

Me too.

It was blatant cheating from Sharp (although from where I was originally sat it looked like he had been fouled)

There was tugging outside the box, before Sharp decided to go to ground once he got in the area. Linesman gave it and obviously Kisnorbo HAD to go if the foul was given.

I can't be bothered to type all this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showpost.php?p=2822662&postcount=32) lot out again, but this is what I saw, and you clearly didn't.

Mainly because I was there and you weren't.

I might remind you that Brown's omission for the rest of that season may well have had a profound effect on our league position that season.
